Description

Garraunbaun Lodge

Situated in Moyard, Garraunbaun Lodge is nestled in a green oasis between the sea (Ballinakill Harbour) and Garraunbaun Lough. The four-bed lodge forms part of an estate built by Architect Charles Palmer Archer in the mid-1850s and is set on four acres, of which over one acre is formal gardens, including a walled garden installed when the estate was divided in 1968. Hydrangea and Rhododendrons feature strongly throughout, as do native plants which tolerate the ravages of the Atlantic.

Moyard is located in the region of Connaught, west coast of Ireland. Connaught's capital Galway City is approximately 54 miles away from Moyard. The distance from Moyard to Ireland's capital Dublin is about 183 miles.

Come and relax in this peaceful self-catering lodge, cosy up and unwind by the living room wood stove whilst planning your stay in Connemara, this strikingly picturesque part of Ireland. The property is 10 minute drive to Letterfrack village (shops, pubs & restaurants), 10 minutes to Connemara National Park, 14 minutes to Kylemore Abbey, 13 minutes to Clifden and 11 minutes to Cleggan.

The interior-designed property features top-quality curtains and soft furnishings. The finest quality bed linen and towels are provided for guests. A recently installed bespoke hand-crafted kitchen in duck egg blue is excellently kitted out, complete with built-in units, a large modern gas hob and electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and espresso coffee machine. It is equipped with all the utensils you might expect to find in a top-notch home, and there is a table that seats eight people.

Separately the house has a large dining room furnished with period adornments with furniture in sympathy with the property's age, including a sideboard, complete dinner service, bureau, side table and dining table that seats 10. The rooms are furnished and tastefully decorated, ensuring a comfortable and enjoyable stay in a modern and minimalist style that fits perfectly with the luminosity and harmony of this property.

In addition, there is a separate self-contained area (excluding the kitchen) with a sitting room area, complete with wood burning stove, and a mezzanine area with a double bed. One of the couches can be converted to a sofa bed, and ample space is provided for an additional fold-down bed.

Charming Irish Retreat with Cozy Touches and Unexpected Delights

We enjoyed the comforts of that beautiful home, and its many, diverse rooms, the special decoration touches, from beautiful curtains to interesting paintings. It helped us discover a beautiful part of Ireland. We did not think we would use a fireplace in August, but it was chilly at night and we loved the fireplace, which was thoughtfully supported by small logs and, new to us, dried turf for fuel. The kitchen was great too even though we did not use it much because we had most of our meals at the local restaurants. And our stay was enhanced by the occasional visit of a black ram.”

The Perfect Home Base

What a wonderful week we had at the Garraunbaun Lodge, a lovely home with loads of charm, in a great location close to quintessential Irish villages with lively pubs and traditional eateries! It was the perfect place to come back to (nice bedrooms and bathrooms, comfortable beds and the kitchen was well equipped) after our days of exploring the area. We enjoyed cycling several routes in and around the Wild Atlantic Way between Clifden and Westport on country lanes with stunning views of the coast. We also ventured to hike the Cliff of Moher and closer nearby hiked the Diamond Peak in Connemara National Park and walked the Kylemore Abbey. Don't miss the lively pub scene with lively music just minutes away.”

Beautiful authentic property

We had a fantastic week's stay at Garraunbaun this month. Definitely helped by spectacular weather! The house is well setup, loads of extras included such as a fully stocked pantry, and a lovely authentic period property. Plenty to do in the area and we discovered some fantastic restaurants. But the best thing to do in the area is just drive ... and take in the spectacular scenery of Connemara!”
