Chateauneuf de Grasse, France
Converted Monastery in Hills of Cote D'Azur
Majestic Monastic Farm with Expansive Views Across Cote D’Azur
A converted monastery dating from the 18th century, this luxury renovated villa is situated in the foothills of the French Riviera, perched on the top of a hill with expansive views over the Cote D’Azur, from the bay of Cannes to Antibes. This unique property has a rich and colorful history and is the perfect spot to enjoy the tranquility and hospitality of nearby provencal villages. However, if you prefer a beach side holiday, the bustling towns of Cannes, Antibes and Nice are all within a half hour drive.
The house has been recently refurbished with a combination of European antiques and contemporary furnishings and has 6 fully air-conditioned bedrooms.
This private luxury villa is ideal for one large family or two families sharing to enjoy the swimming pool, fully equipped pool house with barbecue, jeu de boules and relaxed outdoor life in its beautiful 3 acre provencal terrace gardens.
The villa’s central feature is its vaulted-ceiling living room, originally used as the chapel, which opens up to the beautiful terraced gardens with views onto the swimming pool area and pool-house. The original thick stone walls have been preserved in the dining room and kitchen, and original detailing from the early twenties is seen in the ornate fireplaces, tile floors, and window frames. Both the dining room and living room have fully functional wood burning fireplaces.
The kitchen is equipped with all new modern appliances, yet has retained its country-home charm. An adjoining breakfast room opens to the large southern terrace with has a large wooden table set around a millstone, with seating for up to 14 people.
Each bedroom is tastefully decorated with its own unique character and panoramic views over the valley or onto the surrounding hillsides. Five bedrooms have king size beds, and ensuite bathrooms. The sixth bedroom, The Tower Room, boasts 360 degree views of the coast, hillside towns of Opio and Chateauneuf, and foothills of provence. This room comes with two twin beds and is a delight for children. The house comes with a TV room, fully equipped with satellite TV, DVD player and Sonos sound system.
The villa is just minutes away from the Opio and Valbonne golf courses, 20 minutes to Cannes and 30 minutes to Nice International airport. A large supermarket is 2 minutes down the road as are the local bakery and butcher. The property is south facing so it enjoys the sun the entire day. The famous perfumeries of Grasse are nearby, so when the wind blows right, pleasant aromas of vanilla, rose, or, if you are lucky, caramel, waft across the property.
The villa features a 12 meter long salt water pool which is heated to a comfortable 28c. Comfortable lounge chairs and Sunbrellas surround the pool area provide maximum relaxation. Adjacent to the pool is "El Quincho", an open pool house and kitchen with a traditional Argentinian Barbecue, the perfect setting for a late afternoon "Asado" or refreshing sundowners. The garden of the villa provides a variety of "al fresco" locations for breakfast lunch or dinner". Whether dinner for 6 under the grapevines next to the centuries old water well, breakfast for 12 around the old millstone on the south facing terrace, or lunch at "El Quincho", each time of day will have a unique "Al Fresco" angle.
The Villa’s traditional provencal gardens have been featured on garden tours as the garden is terraced with original stones, and features rosemary, lavender, thyme bushes as well as agapanthe, roses and irises and large cactuses indigenous to provence. There are apple trees, fig trees and pear trees which delight with their fruits in season.
In line with French tradition, a separate "pétanque" play area provides both kids and adults a chance to engage in the game of "jeux de boules".
The property also has a 3 car covered car port, as well as laundry facilities.
