The Sunday House: A Sanctuary Awaits You!

Just a pebble’s throw away from the River Fowey, you’ll find this sensational four-bedroom home. Resting on 3200 square feet in a picturesque, waterside village, this secret sanctuary awaits you. The Sunday House, a tenderly transformed 16th-century Victorian Chapel offers idyllic river views and perfect luxury.

The open-concept living room is found on the second floor, featuring enormous windows and high, vaulted ceilings, plus lovely touches like the huge log burner and original Chapel organ. Featuring stunning views through the windows, this space is perfect for star gazing, storm watching, or just snuggling into one of the cashmere throws. In the evenings, the ambiance is idyllic, ensuring you and your guests are cozy and warm whilst lounging on the lush sofas after a lovely day of exploring Saints Way or the antique shops in Lostwithiel.

The gourmet kitchen is located in the former Sunday School, boasting original flooring throughout. You’ll find state of the art Dualit appliances such as a Rangemaster with gas hob and electric oven. The kitchen is large and spacious, with dusky blue cabinets and smooth, wooden work surfaces. It’s also incredibly well-stocked with modern amenities and fabulous vintage pieces. If you wish to have a personal chef or have a wonderful Cornish chef cater for and entertain you, we’re happy to help arrange that! Buy some crab, lobster, or fresh fish at the local market and return to the house to barbecue on the terrace, or use the range cooker for boiling, grilling, or baking. A lovely farmhouse kitchen table with original chapel benches is ideal for family breakfasts and lunches.

The original double chapel doors take you through a paneled vestibule to the delightful dining hall. There, you’ll find the original chapel pulpit, custom silk drapery, solid oak floors and a marble fireplace. The exquisite dining table has room enough for eight and offers an ideal spot for intimate, fireside dinner parties. After dinner, head to the Riverview terrace for spectacular vistas of the Cornish countryside and River Fowey. With surreal sunsets, outdoor dining, and teak furniture, you’ll never want to leave!

With plump pillows and anti-allergy downy duvets, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more luxurious place to sink into for bed than any of these four bedrooms. Wake every morning to sounds from the soothing stream that flows a gentle course down the bank to the side of the property. Four of the bedrooms contain queen-sized beds, and the final has two twin-sized beds. There’s no better way to start the day than in your own little slice of heaven with a Nespresso in hand!

There are four bathrooms, three en-suites as well as the family bathroom. All of the bathrooms are fitted with heating bars and the finest of fixtures, showers, and antique claw-foot bathtubs, offering copious amounts of hot water to relax in. White Company bath towels and Laura Ashley beach towels are provided.

Well-seasoned travelers can rest easy knowing the beautiful Sunday House holds the prestigious Visit England Five-Star rating and Gold Awards for the exceptional quality of accommodations and customer service from Visit Britain and Quality in Tourism.

The area features more than enough to see and do. The Eden Project is just ten minutes away, the Lost Gardens of Heligan and Padstow 20 minutes away, and the Cathedral City 30 minutes away. There are numerous beaches on both the northern and southern coast, all within a 20-minute drive. The area is a mecca for yachting and boating and offers plenty of unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants. Make sure you check out the Village Pub, a local staple and must see!

Will your holiday feature a summer of romance on the Cornish Riviera, tales of merrymaking with the family on River Fowey or an inspirational short break discovering the hidden coves whispering the secrets of pirates and smugglers from times past you never knew existed?

The Sunday House....a sanctuary awaits you.

Fantastic House

Lovely property set in a small village. Great for exploring the rest of Cornwall or alternatively great house to just chill, walk down the hill to the river and local pub.”

Cornish Hideaway

If you are after solitude you will find it at the Sunday House being perched on a hill rising steeply from the tidal River Fowey in the village of Golant. For eating there is a village pub (five stars for resisting gentrification) and a modest hotel within walking distance. However another option is eating in using the very well-appointed kitchen. Though only a mile or two via steep narrow lanes from busy Fowey, we arranged taxis to take us to and from various pubs and restaurants for our evening meals. It's a perfect area if you like walking, sadly there is not a path along the river into Fowey as it is lined by the famous china clay railway on the Golant side. ”

Spectacular Week at Sunday House

A much appreciated Thank You to Sunday House for a wonderful week in Cornwall. The house was everything we could have hoped for and more. Well appointed, charming and a total joy to stay in as we used it for our base to explore the spectacular and awe inspiring Cornwall countryside. The creativity and beauty which the owners used to convert this old church into a home was just amazing. Obvious love and care went into all the details. Just beautiful! We were three couples with two cars and the only negative was the parking shortage and having to park one car in the village at the bottom of the hill in pay parking every night then having to run down the hill each morning before 8 to feed the meter again. And then back down again each time we went out. A small price to pay.”

The Sunday House

We drove down from Sussex and arrived late at night at the Sunday House. Turning off of the main road we drove down a steep lane covered by trees and arrived in the sleepy fishing village called Golant. If Bilbo Baggins has walked up the road I would not have been surprised. Golant is the sort of place where the world mobile reception and the possibility to relax and hear the silence. The house is a converted church with very tall ceilings and the owners have cleverly worked out how to place 3 bedrooms and a kids "den/bedroom" into the old stone building. Golant is on an estuary and be careful when you park your car near the pub 100 meters away from the house...the tide can rise and "wash" your car. The house is cosy and has all of the mod cons and my only negative point was that the church organ does not work! The incredible Eden Project is nearby and we visited the beautiful beach called Lantic. You can hire sea kayaks at the bottom of the lane near the water and explore the estuary.”
