* NEW YEARS FIESTA DE FIN DE ANO -
New Year’s Eve (Fiesta de Fin de Año) is a festive occasion for millions of people in Mexico, as it is a time to say good bye to the year ending and to welcome in the new year. Parties and dinners are held to celebrate the night in anticipation of the New Year. Fireworks are lit and champagne glasses are toasted at the stroke of midnight between New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day. “Feliz Año Nuevo!” is often the first expression that is shared among friends and family on January 1 – it simply means “Happy New Year”. Celebratory meals include: bacalao (dried, salted codfish); buñuelos(fried dough ball dessert); and ponche (fruit punch). There are many superstitious activities that people do for fun. It is believed that dressing in certain colors will bring positivity: white for spiritual goodness; green for good health; red for love; and yellow for wealth. One midnight tradition is to throw a bucket of water out the window for renewal in the New Year. Another is to sweep out old dust and sweep in coins for prosperity at home.
* CHRISTMAS WEEK FESTIVAL & LAS POSADAS -
Last Two Weeks in December - Festival de San Miguel begins its seasonal Chamber Music Festival. Begun in 1987, the Festival de San Miguel is the second chamber music festival of the year. It's been recognized by the Mexican government as the country's best classical music festival, in addition to free concerts for children. "Las Posadas" is not one event, but a string of December events in San Miguel de Allende, the nine nights of the posadas—which means "inn"— represent the nine-day journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. In a different colonia each night, a boy dressed as Joseph and a young girl dressed as Mary (usually riding donkey) parade through the streets knocking on doors only to be turned away because there is "no room at the inn." At each door, they sing the traditional Posada Song, "Pidiendo Posada," (Begging for Shelter). Finally, the Holy Couple finds an open door and a welcome, and everyone is offered food and hot fruit cider to drink. Piñatas get broken and candy gobbled. It's all the merry making and cultural insights to a true Mexican taste of Christmas. "Pastorals" (passion plays) are another highlight of this period. The plays mix spirituality with jovial spirits, often with flying angels and evil devils getting their due. Broad satire often lampoons political figures. There is usually a wonderful part of the Christmas season!

Great location and Owner is a super Host
Wowza! Amazing city, great home, super location and spectacular Host/member. Our host, Ernie, went out of his way to make sure our trip was one for us all to remember. We had two great staff there, Guadalope and Antonio who made sure our home was perfect at all times. They assisted in lining up in home massages and transportation. The home could not be in a better location; on the park, close to all shops and 5 minute walk to the Rosewood. Sunday brunch at Rosewood was the best I have ever had and you must do the rooftop terrace for sunset and drinks. La Prada is a great Peruvian restaurant only 5 minute walk as well as The Restaurant. Also close is Matilda Hotel and 1810 restaurant and Hotel. The house is set up perfect for 3 couples and the courtyard offers a nice area for sitting or having drinks by the outdoor fireplace and sitting area. We loved this home!
