Description

Located on the shores of Strangford Lough, a few miles from the pituresque coastal Portaferry, a charming small town in County Down, Northern Ireland, at the southern end of the Ards Peninsula, 'Thomastown House is a gentleman's Victorian farmhouse dating from circa 1900, although aspects of the farm buildings date back to Norman times.

It is in a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty and the town offers a short ferry ride to Strangford village and Castleward, a National Trust property where much of 'Game of Thrones' is filmed.

A few miles further south is the town of Downpatrick, where it is said the Cathedral is the burial place of St.Patrick. Belfast is 30 miles away, Portrush and Giants Causeway 80 miles and Dublin 100 miles.

Thomastown House is surrounded by 5 acres of gardens, including an orchard and a grass tennis court.

Internally the house is tastefully decorated with traditional and modern flair and features. It features 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms accommodating a total of 11 people. One of the king size bedrooms also has 2 twin beds, perfect for a family of 4.

This is a place of tranquility and beautiful base to explore locally and further afield all that Northern Ireland has to offer- food, golf, cycling, walking, sailing and endless sightseeing.

Fabulous Family Week

Thomastown House is quite simply stunning - privately situated, beautifully decorated with instagrammable features at every turn but remaining warm, friendly and welcoming. We had the most fabulous family week there - tennis on the grass court, croquet on the lawn, scrabble around the outdoor fire. There’s lots to see and do in the immediate area and further afield - we climbed the highest mountain in Northern Ireland, visited Belfast, hiked Giant’s Causeway, joined in with Game of Thrones fun and of course drank lots of Guinness at the friendly local pub. I really hope that we get the opportunity to return - thank you Sarah for making everything so easy ....”

Irish family reunion @ Thomastown House Ireland

This restored classic property is a fabulous place to visit. The owners care to every detail both inside and outside landscape and gardens show incredible pride of ownership and respect for the historic preservation. The property even though updated with modern infrastructure has maintained the historic features of the original 1800's construction & classic finishes. We could not have vacationed in a nicer place for our family reunion with accommodations so close to where our ancestors grew up before immigrating to America. The owners went beyond expectation in providing referrals to an outstanding French trained private chef and other resources which made our stay comfortable and convenient. The property is in a beautiful country setting yet close to a very quaint Irish sea town and access to many historic sites of Northern Ireland.. A very memorable experience for all.”
