"In the summer of 1480 the Turks landed in the bay, northeast of the farm, and headed for the city of Otranto, after a furious battle, capitulated. For their courage, and faith never renounced, the otrantine victims were later sanctified. That lovely bay since then became known as Bay of the Turks ".

Amazing hidden gem in Otranto, Italy
Masseria Mongio is a beautiful, exquisite, tranquil and a great remote place in Southern Italy. The accommodations are luxurious, the restaurant has the most delicious food and the staff are very professional, friendly and helpful. The vast vineyards, sea view, pool, spa amenities, comfortable beds, showers and close proximity to small but quaint towns of Otranto, Gallipoli, Lecce and Porto Badisco are just some of the features we enjoyed. Baia de Turchi, a sandy beach on the Adriatic is a short walk into the woods. Across the sea in the distance, you can see the mountain ranges of Greece and Croatia. We loved picking edible vegetables in the wild, an exhilarating experience for big city folks like us. A little lesson in fishing is recommended as there is an abundance of fish, octopus and cuttle fish in the sea. Most of all, the host Angelo and his staff, Antonio, Salvatore and Ivan were delightful and accommodating. This is the place to stay in Puglia, away from the city crowd. Thank you for your genuine kindness, it’s such a pleasure to meet happy and friendly people in Italy. Hope to come back in the near future! Craig and Lily ”
