Great location, but.....
We love Carmel, and have been there many times, so when the opportunity came up to stay in a "cottage" in the heart of the town we grabbed it! We enjoyed being in Carmel for the week, but the property has some serious issues. First of all, it was listed as a "cottage" or "home" on the Third Home and VRBO website, but it is actually a condo. Not a big deal, but the picture and description are a little misleading. The listing specifies that it's a "single family home with two levels", it is not. People should know it's a condo on the lower level, and not a detached home. The directions and map that the owner posted are wrong, and we had a very difficult time finding the property in the dark, especially with lightbulbs out on the front courtyard. The TV's and fireplaces in the home didn't work all week, despite our continuing to ask the owner and handyman to take care of it. The owner was very difficult to reach, the handyman tried his best, but couldn't do anything without the owner calling Comcast which never happened. On the plus side, the condo was well decorated, and immaculately clean which was appreciated and the location was excellent. I hope these issues can be taken care of, because it could be a really great property! ”
Comfortable condo unit beautifully situated in Carmel-by-the-Sea
We just returned from a delightful stay in this charming Carmel condo. The location, at the start of Carmel's best shopping and restaurant district, was fantastic. We were 1/2 block away from 2 restaurants on Carmel's 10-best list, and many others were close by. It was easy to walk to the beach, and to visit many of the seaside city's best establishments. The condo itself was quite pretty, and pretty well equipped for cooking and dining. The high-ceilinged rooms were spacious and comfortably appointed. However we never received instructions about how to operate the TV's. The TV in the living room worked one day, but then ceased. We never could get the master bedroom TV to work. We found extra keys and the garage door remote control in the basket on the kitchen countertop. We located the unit's garage around the corner and down a couple of driveways, at the back of a parking lot. It accommodated one car. The street adjacent was fine for overnight parking, but was limited to 2-hour parking during daytime hours. Fortunately there was ample unrestricted 24-hour parking within a block or two. However I must report that it all started off awkwardly, when our host called to say she was in a bind because her out-of-town guests needed to stay the night of our scheduled arrival. We reassured her that we were fine with postponing our arrival by a day. But when we arrived almost 2 hours after our checkin time, the place had not been cleaned! Needless to say, our host was mortified, and arranged to buy us a gourmet dinner at a nearby French restaurant. While we were at the restaurant the host arranged for housekeepers to complete a thorough cleaning of the condo, after which all was well. ”
