Huge Tahoe Home
Thanks to ThirdHome for adding this property to the inventory. It is one of the best we’ve used. This large, relatively new home is an ideal venue for members seeking a vacation home within a quiet neighborhood near Lake Tahoe and skiiing for extended social events, like family reunions. It was perfect for our most recent reunion in June 2021. We grew to love this spacious home more with each passing day, making it truly difficult to leave. But while a perfect venue for our purposes this year, there are opportunities for improvement. Here are some observations. Before elaborating, it should be noted that our last reunion was in 2019. Since then, most businesses, mine included, have had to alter operations to account for reduced revenue and, in many cases, increased cost. So please keep this in mind as you read. 1. For this ThirdHome member, the initial impression of the property was strongly positive. It was promoted upon stepping into the spacious first floor entryway, sensing the pleasing aroma of the nearby indoor pool, the vaulted ceilings and the open stairway beckoning one upward to the main floor. But upon entering the otherwise spacious and luxurious bathrooms, the next impression was a bit of a disappointment. 2. ThirdHome members expect vacation homes within the network to be inviting and truly “turn-key” in every way, just as they would provide for their guests. With such an impressive property, we were surprised at the relative scarcity of basic necessities one takes for granted (bath soap, soap dishes, shampoo, tissues, toilet paper, bath / hand towels, wash cloths and hand lotion, etc.) in sufficient quantities (or nearly so) to make do for the week. With respect to towels, the expectation seems to have been that guests will wash their limited supply as needed. It seemed oddly incongruent in such an impressive home. This relatively small thing shifted our initial impression from one of abundance to that of scarcity. Perhaps that’s the management company’s decision. If so, this member believes it is a disservice to the owner. While minor, it detracts from the property’s appeal. 3. Other observations for improvement include these. While the house is billed as new, it is not (about 6 years old); and is beginning to show wear as evidenced by some stained carpets and scuffed walls. Additionally, we noted a few things absent or not working as they should, suggesting a need for an ongoing inventory, inspection and maintenance program. 4. Finally, it would be a nice touch to provide a couple of robes in each of the king bedroom suites suitable for use by guests to more elegantly go to and from the swimming pool. BOTTOM LINE: Despite these temporary shortcomings, we loved the property and would like to return to it one day.”
This house is in a great location, lots of hikes near by, lots of live music and restaurants. Right next to Heavenly ski resort. The house it's self is great for gathering with friends and family. There are three levels so everyone has plenty of room. The kitchen and grand room are great for cooking and hanging out. We loved the outdoor fireplace, great for a cocktail and conversation after a long day of hiking. Would definitely recommend this place to all.”
Home is quite large and good for a big group. There were only four of us staying so plenty of space. For a newer home it had a lot of wear and tear and many stains on the carpet. It's clearly rented a lot so they might want to consider blocking off more time for maintenance. Also the hot tub wasn't available and the pool isn't heated so neither of those provided value. ”
