Your townhouse boasts a large south-facing terrace and a table under a large olive tree in the garden that can accommodate all the guests to enjoy meals where to relish a glass of the local Côtes du Rhône while enjoying the views of the surrounding mountains. Often called the "Beast of Provence”, the Mont Ventoux is the highest peak in the mountain group Baronnies that can be reached by car. Half way, the vegetation changes dramatically, the dense afforestation gives way to occasional remains of vegetation, and everything becomes a stony desert.
With its well-known wines of Appellation d'origine contrôlée, Rasteau is a tradition winemaking village, close to many excellent wineries and provençal markets, with many charming villages, cycling routes and walking trails nearby. This highly prized region has many attractions, and after 20 minutes driving from your property, pass through the 14th-century fortified gate and explore the magnificent charming medieval old town village of Vaison-la-Romaine, that welcomes the largest archaeological site in France.
Also famous for its Roman remains, the “city of Princes” of Orange is only a short 20-minutes drive from the Provencal House, and is home to two UNESCO World Heritage Monuments, the Triumphal Arch and the Roman Theatre, which is among the best preserved Roman theaters in the world and is a fabulous journey back in time to the illustrious past. Orange is also the ideal place for a walk in its lovely streets, fulfilled with many little squares, cafés shaded by sycamore trees and many restaurants that cook traditional provencal meals.
A short distance to the south of Orange, cross the famous St Bénézet bridge over the Rhone river and discover historical Avignon, whose old city is clustered within impressive medieval walls. An excellent starting point for exploring the city is the stunning UNESCO-listed “Palais des Papes” (papal palace) that was the residence of seven Popes during the 14th century. The city is known as a center of art and culture and hosts a wide variety of festivals and events throughout the year, from the popular summertime Jazz Festival to a traditional Christmas market in December. Enjoy the relaxing Provençal atmosphere of the town and explore the quaint streets, such as the Rue des Teinturiers and elegant squares like the Place des Corps Saints. At the heart of Avignon, the Place de l'Horloge is lined with shady plane trees and filled with cafés where patrons sit and watch the world go by.
