Livin' La Veta Loca
Boasting a generous four bedrooms and six bathrooms over 4900 square feet, this family and pet-friendly luxury home features beautiful mountain views on 50 private acres bordering one million acres of the San Isabel National Forest, with no neighbors in sight. It feels like the most remote of locations, but it is just minutes away from the tiny mountain town of Cuchara, and only 18 minutes to the small town of La Veta, with plentiful outdoor attractions throughout the year.
Inside, enjoy the touch of refined décor that makes the home a pleasure to relax in. The home features honed quartz counters throughout the house, with marble floor bathrooms, along with hardwood floors and natural wood cabinets, giving the home a warm yet sophisticated feel. Mid-century modern furnishings are elegant yet comfortable, and original artwork, much from local Colorado artists, accents the décor.
The entryway leads you into a spacious mid-century modern living room with floor-to-ceiling windows flaunting mountain views. Here you have all of the luxuries for entertaining and enjoying this beautiful home and its surroundings in comfort. A wet bar with a wine fridge, ice maker, and glassware allows you to craft the perfect cocktail to sip as you play a round of games at the card table while the fire crackles nearby.
The kitchen has an open layout with the dining room, with countertop seating for four, plus a 12' live edge dining room table that seats 12 people, so you have plenty of room for your group. The kitchen is a chef's dream with two islands for seating and serving, Viking appliances including a six-burner gas stove with griddle and commercial hood, dual ovens, and two dishwashers. A cozy built-in hutch has a Keurig coffee station and TV, so you can catch the morning news while you enjoy a fresh cup of Joe. The laundry room has a Sub-Zero freezer to store extra snacks, as well as an LG Signature washer and dryer.
The layout of this home is perfect for multi-family groups, as each bedroom has its own en suite bathroom, and the second master suite can be converted into a bunk room, depending on your needs. The expansive main floor master bedroom provides plenty of cozy spots to rest and recharge, including a king-size bed with a Purple brand mattress and a sitting area with swivel chairs by the fireplace and TV, where you can enjoy conversation with panoramic mountain views. The master bathroom suite is like your own private spa, with a large Caribbean marble shower with two shower heads and a private relaxation room with a freestanding tub, chandelier, and quartz wall—so you can have your tranquility time in peace. There are also two other guest rooms on the main floor, one with a king bed and the other has two queen beds with firm comfort cooling mattresses. Each guest room has a full ensuite bathroom with marble floors, quartz counters, and a shower/tub.
The second master suite is located on the second floor. It has a king bed (which can be split into twins), plus two additional twin beds, its own living room area with a couch and TV, an en suite bathroom with a shower, plus a small private upper deck overlooking the San Isabel National Forest. This is a perfect suite for a family with young children! Another option, if you have more than 12 guests, is to extend sleeping space into the loft area right before you enter the second master suite, where four additional twin mattresses can be laid on the floor for extra sleeping space. The loft also has its own full bathroom. (If this is desired, please let us know so that we can provide extra linens for these beds).
The main floor deck is accessible from the kitchen, living room, and master bedroom. There is almost as much deck space as space inside. Enjoy meals outside with the outdoor dining table that seats eight people, soak in the hot tub, and lounge on the couch or recliners to enjoy the mountain views.
This property is truly a kid's delight with a 50' ropes course, zipline, and trampoline. Beautiful, unique large boulders on the property are fun for adult-supervised climbing adventures too. Explore 50 acres of hiking, plus the National Forest, and discover an old wood teepee and small aspen glade nestled next to a mountain stream.
LOCAL ACTIVITIES
The small towns of Cuchara and La Veta host many fun activities over the summer. Cuchara Mountain Park is just a five-minute drive from the house. The park offers hiking and biking trails and disc golf in the summer. In the winter, they have groomed trails for cross-country skiers. Bear Lake and Blue Lake access roads are just a ten-minute drive away. They feature lake and stream fishing, plus 23 miles of motorized trails available for ATV, motorcycle, bicycle, foot, and horse use. The Wahatoya Lakes State Wildlife Area—one mile east of La Veta on Bear Creek Road—offers the perfect respite for fishing, picnicking, hiking, wildlife viewing, and non-motorized boating.
Colorado's first state park, Lathrop State Park, is just a 30-minute drive. It features two lakes and nearly 1,600 acres of recreational land nestled among the pinyons and junipers of the Spanish Peaks' foothills. Martin Lake offers water skiing, power, and sailboating. It's also a warm-water lake, making it great for swimming. Horseshoe Lake is a peaceful haven for canoeists, kayakers, and other wakeless boaters. Catfish, bass, walleye, trout, and bluegill thrive in both lakes, although Horseshoe Lake is known for its large tiger muskies. Lathrop State Park's Hogback Nature Trail is one of the area's most popular hiking trails. And when visitors are done with their hike, they'll often relax on the park's beach or let their kids play on the playground.
DIRT ROAD ACCESS TO HOUSE
A 4x4 vehicle is recommended in the spring & summer due to snow-melt runoff that causes muddy conditions and ruts, and a 4x4 vehicle is required in the fall and winter due to snow and possible ice conditions. All vehicles in CO are recommended to carry tire chains when traveling for safety.
WILDLIFE
You will often see abundant wildlife on the property, including mule deer, elk, turkey, and fox squirrels. There are also black bears in the area (however, they are rarely seen). Please never leave food or trash outside, as it will attract bears, and bears that become nuisance must be put down. Hunting is not permitted on the property, even with a tag. Game cameras throughout the property are recording. However, hunters can access the San Isabel National Forest to hunt, walking directly from the house to the forest about 100 yards from the house. Proper hunting licenses and tags are required.
OTHER
The total guest count on site at any time must remain at 16 people or under. There is no smoking of any kind allowed in the home. If you smoke anything outside, make sure you dispose of any trash properly. Any evidence of smoking or fires outside will be a fine, as this area is a fire zone, and even a small ember could threaten the safety of this forest.
