Baliwood, A Ski Lodge filled with Balinese art
… A Work of Art in the Mountains of Park City

There are many grand mountain homes in Park City, Utah, but none other like this. The owners, who are New York Times #1 Bestselling Authors, fell in love many years ago with the magical island of Bali and ultimately sent two 40-foot ocean containers full of rare hardwoods and art pieces from Indonesia. They then built a majestic ski-country lodge to accommodate it all. They call the house “Baliwood.”

From its grey slate roof down to its imported bamboo, teak, and ironwood floors, this house makes coming home from the ski slopes as enjoyable as swooping down them. The great room’s soaring 25-foot arched windows overlook the heavily forested mountains of Toll Canyon, and Park City’s world-famous ski resorts are a mere ten minutes away. The interior walls of Baliwood exhibit several Balian oil paintings and a commissioned life-size artist-copied replica of the Pre Raphaelite painting The Lady of Shalott from the Tate Museum in London.

Baliwood’s main level features a massive dining area two steps up from the great room with a 16-foot carved teak table adjoined by a state-of-the-art kitchen and a large butler’s pantry. There is also a library with a work table of black marble set with jungle scenes in semi-precious stones from Agra, India, and an arched ceiling made of the ribs of an ancient Indonesian spice ship. The wide main floor outdoor deck looks up into the mountains and is perfect for outdoor dining. The seating area in the great room surrounds a long glass coffee table mounted above an antique dugout canoe and is anchored by a large carved fireplace on the north and a Steinway grand piano on the south. There is also a full bath on this main level with a stone bowl basin, imported tile and wood floors, and a full-slate shower.

The upper level has balconies that open onto the great room and two other elevated outdoor decks. It contains a large master suite with a Bali artisan-carved four-poster bed, high arched windows, a corner fireplace, and an elegant glass table supported by an antique teak-root carving of five wild horses. A second Balian bed and bath suite opens off of an above-the-great-room sitting area and is built around a teak headboard and a floor made of pitch pegged ironwood planks from the same ship whose ribs make up the library ceiling. A TV den contains a sofa bed and can be used as a fourth bedroom.

The lower level houses the African bed and bath suite with more ironwood floors and Kenyan masks and artifacts. This level also features a game room/theatre and an seven-car garage.

There are three guesthouses (not a part of this house exchange) on the other side of a large circular drive and above a stream that flows through the lower part of the property. Gravel paths line the stream and connect to the horse barn.

Amazing Park City Home

We had a very enjoyable stay in Richard and Linda's beautifully decorated house - like a Balinese art museum transported to Utah! Fascinating decor with all the comforts and luxuries of home - lots of space - highly recommended. Note that a vehicle will be needed - a short distance from Park City skiing. Richard was a gracious host.”

Special home, great host, awesome location

Our family loved the home. It is a private and perfect location for mountains and everything the area has to offer. The house was very clean, we were welcomed with a thoughtful welcome gift, and the host's communication was terrific. Highly recommend property”
