November 2023Thanksgiving Holiday by the Lake
If you are looking for a place to go off the grid where you can disconnect from the hustle and bustle, a place for tranquility and to read your favorite book with a few close friends, this is your place! Our extended family needed a midway point to gather up 3 separate families for the Thanksgiving holiday. We had 6 adults and 4 teens in our party. The house is well stocked, tastefully decorated and feels very "homey". Our hosts even left us a lovely "welcome" basket with goodies and treats to enjoy during our stay. The master suite is well appointed with it's own large bathroom complete with shower, soaker tub and attached/bump out sitting room which has a sleeper sofa (this is on the main level). Getting 10 adult-sized people showers daily with 2.5 bathrooms (one being contained in the Master Bedroom) proved a bit tricky but we made it work. The location and setting is in a quaint gated community and has beautiful views of the lake from the backside of house and the dock. If you want to unplug, this would be the place to do it since there is no WIFI and the cell service wasn't strong for any of our service plans. We were able to get just enough cell service to stream the Thanksgiving Day parade and football (albeit with some buffering delays) via one of our party's Apple TV they brought and their cell phone. Unfortunately, not having WIFI was a bit of a challenge for us because we had 2 adults that needed to work a couple of days and some students that needed to submit assignments/do research, so they had to try to find locations to work from and the closest coffee shops with WIFI are minimally 30-45 mins away. Same for grocery stores, so plan to pack as much in as you can or have someone make a grocery run anytime they're near an area with amenities. That said, some of our party enjoyed going on hikes, runs or walks in the area while others curled up for quiet time activities like reading or playing games and generally making our own fun. Too bad the photos show the fireplace lit but it's not operational, would have added a lot of charm and coziness to our holiday. Something to note - a neighbor alerted us that there are bears in the area, so make sure to drive all trash down to the dumpster area daily. All in all, we had a great time being together as a family which is what we wanted most!”
