Description

Mountain Home Ranch - Bordering National Forest

Perfectly poised on 160 acres adjacent to the San Juan National Forest and La Plata River, coupled with wondrous mountain views and extraordinary hiking opportunities, make this spacious ranch truly remarkable!

This 5,000 square foot residence has four bedrooms, four bathrooms, and luxurious appointments throughout to ensure a pleasant stay. Entrants will be blown away not only by the open floor plan's functionality but also by its charming beauty and thoughtful attention to detail. An expansive wall of windows immerses the main living area in natural light, while vaulted ceilings with timber beams and trusses add the timeless feel of a bona fide mountain home.

Within minutes of arriving, you'll find yourself eager to sink into the plush leather furniture while the custom stone fireplace warms the living room. Not far behind the living room is a bright office with a second stone fireplace, perfect for remote workers or book worms seeking a quiet space. When it's time for snacks, meals, drinks, or even game nights, you will have no problem finding a seat for everyone in your group. Choose from an intimate table next to the windows, a sizeable 10-person dining table, a set of four bar stools at the kitchen island, or a 10-person table on the outside deck with beautiful mountain views. The latter is perfect for keeping each other company while cooking delicious meals with the kitchen's high-end stainless steel appliances. And if all of this wasn't enough to impress you, this immaculate mountain ranch also offers a second refrigerator, washer and dryer, two-car garage, plenty of storage, and a large game room equipped for a friendly game of ping pong!

With four comfortable bedrooms, everyone will enjoy their best sleep. The master suite, along with the adult guest room, offer king-size beds with soft linens and cozy blankets. The lavish master bathroom dons a dual vanity, a large walk-in shower, and a freestanding tub adorned with a beautiful chandelier. The final two bedrooms are perfect for kids; one sports a twin bunk bed and a standalone twin bed, while the other features two twin bunk beds.

But the magic doesn't stop inside. Head to the back porch to take in stunning mountain views or admire the abundant wildlife, like elk and turkey, that visit the property's large pond. Just outside the door, you'll have access to endless hiking trails in the San Juan National Forest—a perfect way to soak up Durango's nearly 300 days of sunshine. For ski and snowboard enthusiasts, Hesperus Ski Area is just 10 minutes away and offers the largest night skiing area in the Southwest, plus lessons and a tubing hill. Better yet, make the 45-minute drive to Purgatory Resort, ranked #10 on Condé Nast's list for "Best Ski Resort in the U.S. and Canada: Readers' Choice Awards."

If you want your itinerary to really pack a punch, then be sure to add whitewater rafting down the Animas River, soaking in the thermal waters at Durango Hot Springs, and riding along the historic Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad to your list!

Wonderful Stay

This is a beautiful place on a giant private lot with amazing 360 degree views of the mountains. The house itself is huge, with very high grade construction and tasteful decor. The owners were extremely helpful. There is a great restaurant less than 5 minutes away, and the ride into Durango is about 15 minutes. You will want a four-wheel drive, especially in the winter, as the driveway is long and steep. Also, plan to arrive during the daylight, as the house can be a little hard to find at first. Southwestern Colorado is terrific -- such a stunning landscape, and a little off the beaten path without the crowds and congestion you find closer to Denver. ”

Fantastic Ranch and House and Host!

David's house and ranch are absolutely incredible! We very much enjoyed our stay and David was also a very helpful host. The house is extremely comfortable and had tons of space for all of us. It is just a short drive from central Durango and is located on a spectacular piece of land. If staying during the Winter I would suggest a 4x4 vehicle to handle the drive from the main road. I can only imagine how beautiful it is during all of the other seasons!”

Better than the pictures & excellent stay...

Our stay at DG's home in Durango was fantastic! The location is slightly outside of town but the views are out of this world. The house was immaculately clean and the hosts were great at communicating and very helpful during our stay. We arrived late at night and didn't realize how great the mountain views were from the inside. The estate is very private and on a large piece of property. Definitely worth the visit and we'll definitely be coming back. The only thing to keep in mind is that if you're visiting in the winter, it's worth having an all-wheel drive as the roads can get piled with snow quickly, but they have on-site staff who clean it shortly after a snowfall. Overall, a great experience!”
