Description

Downtown Bar Harbor Convent, Beautifully Restored!

Welcome to Saint Edwards Convent, built in 1908 and on the National Register of Historic Places! Come stay in one of the only examples of Jacobethan architecture in the United States! This newly restored property used to be a museum and has a fully equipped chapel and confessional, with historic stained glass windows and beautiful architectural details! This eight-bedroom, three -and-a half-bathroom property is located in the heart of downtown Bar Harbor and near dining, shopping, and Acadia National Park!

No expense was spared in this gorgeous renovation. Upon entering this magical property, you will notice the beautiful woodwork, spacious layout, and chic furnishings. The stately bay windows allow the main floor living room to be filled with sunlight. The second floor hosts the original chapel with stunning stained glass windows and magnificent beams dancing overhead.

Your inner chef will be delighted to cook in this beautiful kitchen - complete with a custom double oven, six-burner stove, and a wine fridge. Gather your group and feast around the spacious dining table, or eat outside on the patio under the stars.

Retire for the night to one of seven bedrooms. Five bedrooms include queen-sized beds. One room has two twin beds, and the seventh bedroom has a double and twin bed. The eighth bedroom has a crib for the tiny ones. All rooms are outfitted with memory foam Casper mattresses and decor reminiscent of the Art Deco era. There are three beautifully-renovated bathrooms to share.

This home is truly an experience. Two cruiser bikes for guest use and an EV charging station!

The National Register of Historic Places stated:
"From an architectural standpoint, St. Edward's is noteworthy as a virtually intact example of a residential building designed in the Jacobethan Revival style. Characteristics of the style as described in American Architecture Since 1780: A Guide to the Styles (Whiffen, 1969) include the use of brick for walls and stone or a substitute such as concrete for window frames, parapets, quoins, and ornament, as well as steep-sided triangular gables and bay windows. All of these elements are present in the design of the convent as developed by the local architect Milton Stratton."

Bar Harbor is an AMAZING town with great food, and this home is within walking distance to everything. It is known for its stunning coastal beauty, many yachts and lobster boats, and its view of islands and ocean in settings ranging from glistening sunlight to thick fog and mist.

Other things to note:

Private driveway with off-street parking suitable for 2-3 vehicles.
Electric Vehicle charging is available via JuiceBox 40 amp J1772 level 2 charger.
High speed internet with mesh Wi-Fi network. This provides a super strong and fast Wi-Fi connection throughout the entire house.

Just Okay

We were not treated very well by hosts. Just gave excuses for problems we incurred. Ants in kitchen, called host, said we should go to hardware store and get ant killer. Only 4 wine glasses, host said too early in season, not replenished yet?? No BBQ grill as advertised, host not helpful. Description said checkout 11 am, host called said we need to be out by 9 am, another group(paying customers, not Third Home) coming in. We had to change the trip dates to accommodate the host having a paying group come. This after we had made the reservation months in advance. Not everything was disappointing, the location is ideal.”
