Description

Castello di Polgeto | Umbria (R)

Surrounded by vineyards and olive groves as far as the eye can see and immersed in a relaxing atmosphere, Castello di Polgeto is an exclusive oasis and the epitome of an Italian dream. Situated in the central region of "Umbria", this private castle is the perfect place to enjoy unique moments with your loved ones and friends, tasting traditional food in nearby restaurants, taking part in cooking classes, vineyard touring, wine tasting, or olive harvesting.

This old renovated castle is situated just a few kilometres from Perugia in Umbria, between olive groves and vineyards, in the heart of the most authentic Italian countryside, an oasis of peace and tranquillity in a privileged position.

With its proximity to popular destinations such as Montepulciano (60 Km), Arezzo (60 km), Perugia (37 km), and Assisi (50 km), Castello di Polgeto is the perfect base to discover the area's impressive sights and rich history.

With origins suggesting an early fortress, the Castello di Polgeto dates back to 1152. Subsequently occupied as a private residence during the 14th, 17th and 18th centuries, the estate exudes interest and drama. A casual walk around the property reveals shooting walls, archers' slits, Gothic window arches, old dungeons and much more.

There are thirteen en suite bedrooms, many with their sitting rooms, as well as multiple gathering spaces, indoors and out, including an adult-sized tree house for lunches with a difference!

The Castello is immersed in the 'great green heart 'of Umbria, an inviting and quintessentially Italian landscape. Wake to the sound of birdsong, and enjoy fantastic summer mornings before exploring pretty Umbrian hill towns and excellent local wineries.

Gubbio, Perugia and Assisi are all within easy distance of the castle for day trips. At the same time, the nearby town of Umbertide is perfect for exploring the weekly market, enjoying an espresso with the locals or enjoying a terrific dinner in an authentic trattoria.

This is all assuming, of course, that you can tear yourself away from the castle and its extensive grounds. Guests may want to enjoy an afternoon in the extraordinary tree house canopy, seating up to 24 guests, with a suspended platform with day beds, perfect for an afternoon siesta in the treetops. Children will enjoy the playroom with activities suiting children up to 12 years. Older children can explore the labyrinthine corridors, hidden walkways and viewpoints or play games of bocce, ping-pong, tennis and the swimming pool.

Just a note that 4 of the bedrooms are not winterised so not usable from October-April.

Castello with history from years gone by!

The Castello is an absolutely unique stay..... so much history...... if the walls of this castle could just talk. We were a group of 14 adults and spent most of our days and nights at the Castello eating and drinking wonderful local wines. Coming from South Africa we also had to have our normal BBQ's. The pool area and gardens are breathtaking..... the tennis court is the most beautiful I have ever seen. If you are very active and into games you literally don't have to leave the Castello for entertainment....... there are so many things to do in and around the Castello. The men loved the pinball machine especially! You do get lost in the castle in the beginning though.🤣. The rooms in the main Castello are very spacious with lovely big seperate lounge areas in 3 of them. We partly occupied the Castello, farm house and family wing as our party was quite small. Bea organised us a special Umbrian meal in the Treehouse which was absolutely lovely and we will treasure this memory. (Thank you Bea). We had a spectacular meal at Agriturismo Ristorante CallaGrana. Definitely a must visit. Thank you to Elizabeth and Andy for sharing their amazing Castello with us and our friends. We had the time of our lives in a space totally foreign to me..... we literally walked back in time. I felt like a princess in a Castle for one time in my life). A week was just to short to visit all the incredible things to do in the area and surrounds. Thank you Elizabeth for sharing detailed information about things to explore and experience. We loved our stay in Umbria and Castello Di Polgeto”
