Island Park Lodge in Yellowstone Country
Just minutes away from the steaming geysers, thundering waterfalls, and panoramic vistas of Yellowstone National Park lies a luxurious mountain lake house which has never been rented, and available only to family and 3rd Home guests. With the property’s own private beach and dock, you can enjoy boating, canoeing, water-sports, or fishing for cutthroat trout.
Adventurers will discover vast fields of wildflowers and other natural wonders on captivating hiking trails through the pristine Idaho/Montana wilderness. Remember to bring your camera, just in case you run into some native bison, moose, elk, or bald eagles. Winter months are particularly appealing with ice fishing, snowmobiling, and 3 world-class ski resorts within reach (Big Sky, Jackson Hole, and Grand Targhee). Whatever the season, you’ll never forget moment you first saw the moon rise over the lake, joining the innumerable stars in the mountain sky.
With a spacious 6,000 sq. ft. open floor plan, guests will enjoy breathtaking lake views from virtually every room in the house, including all bedrooms! The home features a large Owner’s Suite with one of three fireplaces, luxurious bath, and walk-in closet. There are four additional Master Suites, each with private bath and walk-in closet. With its adjoining butlers pantry, the kitchen is well equipped to handle large families, guests, and visitors. The spacious family room with towering fireplace, large outdoor deck overlooking the lake, and outdoor patio with fire pit are spectacular backdrops for entertaining. You will also enjoy the recently added pool/ping-pong table and theater room.
Contrary to what many outsiders might think, winter is one of the best times to visit Yellowstone National Park. A tour through the park via snow coach or snowmobile is truly an unforgettable experience. In fact, it has been said of the park that "If you haven't seen Yellowstone in the winter you haven't seen Yellowstone.”
Some of the same natural forces that made Yellowstone National Park so scenic also made neighboring Island Park a beautiful recreation destination. Island Park sits in the world's largest caldera, 23 miles in diameter, created from a volcano that collapsed in prehistoric times. Now covered in a dense forest of pine and wildflowers, it is popular for hiking and fishing in the summer, and cross country skiing and snowmobiling in the winter. With its rich Rocky Mountain culture, Island Park is a fun, rustic atmosphere with much to experience.
A rewarding side trip en route to Island Park is the Mesa Falls Scenic Byway. Mesa Falls is a 65' waterfall that can be viewed from an observation point high above the falls. Upper Mesa Falls is a spectacular 112' waterfall and has a network of viewing platforms, as well as a visitors center.
World famous for fly fishing, the Henry's Fork of the Snake River is popular to both anglers and boaters. The Henry's Fork then winds through the meadows of one of Idaho's most premiere state parks, Harriman State Park, also known as the Railroad Ranch.
Just before the Montana border, you will find Henrys Lake and Henrys Lake State Park. The park is open in the summer and fall for anglers fishing for cutthroat, brook and rainbow-cutthroat hybrid trout. Another source for the Henry's Fork comes from Big Springs, where 120 million gallons of water bubble up to the surface each day.

Yellowstone in the winter time
We have always wanted to experience the wonders of Yellowstone in the winter time. Our stay at Island Park Lodge allowed us that opportunity and we were not disappointed. The winter of 2019 provided lots of snow and gave us a fantastic winter play ground. We took a snow coach tour of Yellowstone National Park, downhill skied at Big Sky, x-country skied along the Madison River, snowmobiled Two Top mountain outside of West Yellowstone. The Island Park Lodge was an ideal home to base our adventures from. Not only is the home absolutely beautiful but it is ideally setup for our travel group of 3 couples and 2 bachelors. Everything about the house is first class from the bedding to the kitchen supplies. We wanted for nothing. We even had access to x-country ski, snowshoe and snowmobile out the backside of the house and across the lake. ”
We had a most wonderful stay at this beautifully appointed home in Yellowstone country. The owners were very gracious and welcoming, providing us with great suggestions and information about the area and the home. There were more things to do than we could possibly fit in! We took a snowcoach tour inside Yellowstone National Park to Old Faithful and got to see a lot of wildlife. We had a blast snowmobiling, ice-fishing, and skiing at Grand Targhee, Big Sky and Jackson Hole. We thoroughly enjoyed the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. Cross-country skiing and snow-shoeing trails are everywhere. At the end of each day, it was great to come back to this wonderful home and relax. There was a home theater and a ping-pong table but we were too tired to use either :-) Thank you Mr. and Mrs. Johnson for sharing your home with us!”
Wonderful Family Home
The hospitality of our hosts was exceptional! We appreciate so much how welcome we were to our hosts home. The home is everything you want in a lakeside lodge. The home is decorated to perfection and has more then ample kitchen equipment. We received about 5 ft of snow while we were there and snowmobiled, went to Yellowstone (easy drive) and saw an amazing winter wonderland. We played games at the table every night. Due to the volume of snow we received we cooked in every meal and found the kitchen worked well for our group of 10. Close to ski resorts. We like remote locations so this was our kind of place. It IS remote and you should keep that in mind for your group. ”
Magical Winter Vacation
We loved everything about our stay in Island Park. Bob was a wonderful host and his recommendations were spot-on. We spent a couple of days touring Yellowstone (winter landscape was breathtaking) and another couple of days exploring the area on snowmobiles. He also recommended a day of adventure and ice fishing. This turned out to be our favorite day! We caught over 30 fish and our boys enjoyed every minute of our day. The home was luxurious yet comfortable and the views are lovely. We can't wait to return!”
Beautiful Winter Wonderland!
The Island Park Lodge is a beautiful, well-appointed home located in Island Park. The home is LARGE, with beautiful furnishings, comfortable beds, and all of the extras, i.e., spices, olive oil, mustard, etc. The owners were so helpful, providing places to dine, travel recommendations to get to the Lodge, and leaving sleds behind for the kids to enjoy the snow. We rented snow mobiles, took them back to the Lodge, and everyone in our party enjoyed them for the day. What fun!!! If you're going in the winter, be sure to book tours into Yellowstone well in advance. They were all booked by the time we got there. We would definitely go back again because we would love to see Island Park in the summer months. ”
