Beautiful Beaufort by the Bay
Beautiful Beaufort by the Bay
This quintessential Lowcountry residence is located on Lady’s Island, a short 3 mile drive from the heart of downtown historic Beaufort, South Carolina, the gateway to the Sea Islands. The home is situated in the magical, intricately designed community of Newpoint, an award winning and timeless residential area, lined with high quality, character filled homes on streets with beautiful specimen trees. It is the perfect place to walk or bike and the property is just steps away from the community dock on the deep waters of Factory Creek. Watching the magnificent western sunsets at dusk from the gazebo is truly a mystical experience.
Beaufort is a coastal town that is constantly listed as one of the prettiest destinations in the South with a vibe similar to Charleston, ninety minutes up the coast. It is smaller and less formal than its more citified neighbor, and Bay Street is bordered with a vast array of shops and art galleries. It is a foodie’s paradise, offering a wide selection of first-rate restaurants. The waterfront stretches along the Bay and one can sit and take in spectacular vistas from a wide expanse of bordering lawn.
If the charming streets of Beaufort look familiar, you may have enjoyed glimpses of them in the motion pictures “The Big Chill”, “Forest Gump” or “The Prince of Tides”. Pat Conroy has left his indelible mark on Beaufort and surrounding Lowcountry areas, making it a storybook Southern town. A tour of the Pat Conroy Museum is a special attraction and not to be missed, as is a horse drawn carriage ride through the historic Old Point neighborhood of Beaufort.
Venture only 15 miles to the east of town and explore Hunting Island State Park, a 5,000 acre semitropical island perfect for walking miles of pristine white sand beach. There are also miles of hiking trails through the maritime forest and a Nature Center with live animal exhibits.
You will enter your Newpoint home through the gate of a white picket fence leading to an expansive front porch with gas lanterns. Open the front door, which is reclaimed from an 1800’s Kentucky Bourbon Distillery, and you will immediately be struck by the high ceilings, antique hardwood floors and countless upgrades. On the main level there is a charming living room with a wood burning fireplace, a well equipped kitchen with high end appliances opening into a small, cozy dining room with seating for six. There is also a den with a pullout queen bed and a full en suite bathroom. On the second floor there are two comfortable bedrooms with full bathrooms, one with a four poster king size bed and the other with two double beds and a small sitting area.
The guesthouse, located just steps away from the main house, is comprised of a queen bedroom with an en-suite bath, a full kitchen and a living room.
The property is extremely comfortable and offers several indoor and outdoor sitting areas, plus a lovely back yard that can be accessed from a screened porch. The landscaping, featuring native plants, has verdant foliage and flowering shrubs all year long.
Although the home is situated on a small plot of land, the economy of space is remarkable, and it is a comfortable setting from which to enjoy the diverse activities in Beaufort and beyond.
