The Lake Oconee area is home to several world-class resorts like Reynolds Plantation, the Ritz Carlton, and, of course, Cuscowilla. Some of the best golf in Georgia can be found in this region. A short distance away are the beautiful antebellum towns of Eatonton, Milledgeville, Greensboro, and Madison, with antique stores, restaurants, and nice downtown areas for strolling. About an hour away to the north, you'll find Athens, home of the University of Georgia, and traveling about an hour east will take you to Augusta, Georgia, home of the Master's Golf Tournament.

The lake itself is a beautiful expanse of water with plenty of opportunities for fishing, tubing, skiing, and swimming. Despite the drought, the area has experienced lately, Lake Oconee has been managed throughout by Georgia Power to keep its waterline at a constant level.
