Description

Mountrothe House

Nestled in the picturesque Kilkenny countryside, Mountrothe House invites visitors to experience a unique blend of charm, history, and modern luxury. Originally built in 1765 as a Georgian residence by Richard Rothe, this elegantly restored house is situated on a working farm, just 10 miles from the vibrant Medieval City of Kilkenny and a little over an hour’s drive from Dublin.

With a rich historical backdrop, Mountrothe House was once home to notable figures, including George Abraham Rothe, the High Sheriff of County Kilkenny in 1804 and later the Mayor of Kilkenny City. The property served as a ‘Safe House’ during the Irish War of Independence, hosting Eamon de Valera during a pivotal period in Ireland's history.

This luxurious self-catering accommodation is perfect for families and friends looking to celebrate special occasions or simply unwind in a serene environment. The spacious interior, adorned with period details, can comfortably sleep up to 14 guests across seven unique en-suite bedrooms, three of which are located in the basement and feature stunning vaulted ceilings.

Mountrothe House boasts a large, fully equipped kitchen with an original AGA, now converted to electric, seamlessly connecting to an inviting dining and living area. A sunroom offers additional space for dining or relaxation, while the piano room serves as a perfect retreat for musical guests. A small study provides a cozy nook for reading, and the basement games room ensures entertainment for younger guests. A convenient laundry room is also available on-site.

Outside, guests can enjoy the expansive garden, perfect for leisurely strolls or simply soaking up the beauty of the surrounding countryside.

County Kilkenny is rich in heritage and culture, offering a plethora of attractions and activities. From vibrant festivals in Kilkenny City to local arts and crafts, the area is a treasure trove waiting to be explored. The house's location ensures that guests are just a short drive from the city’s many offerings.

Guests have full access to all areas of the house and the adjacent garden, ensuring a private and enjoyable stay.

Mountrothe House is more than just a place to stay; it’s a destination steeped in history, designed for relaxation, and perfect for making lasting memories.
