Quintessential English Country House
The Old Hall is the perfect place for a big unforgettable celebration, a holiday with friends and family or a truly peaceful weekend away from it.
Featured in The Independent as one of the 50 best British breaks - we were in the luxury section along with Chewton Glen and Le Manoir.
Here's what a recent guest had to say - "What a staggering house it is. Thank you for providing the most perfect setting for the best weekend of my life. Friends travelled from as far as Toronto and Hong Kong to be here and it did not disappoint. Archery, fish and chips, long baths, swims, log fires, proper sleeps and the most wonderful of friends. I will never forget our Norfolk jaunt at The Old Hall."
As soon as you enter the atmospheric Great Hall you know that you have arrived at a very special place. Grade Two* listed with a plethora of original details and features; leaded light windows, Jacobean fireplaces, decorative plaster ceilings and an abundance of oak beams and panelling. This family owned house has been updated for modern living without losing it's atmosphere and authenticity.
Sleeping up to 18 - ideally 12-14 adults and 4 children - The Old Hall is offered an an exclusive basis for holidays or long week-end breaks and whilst offered on self catering basis we can provide highly rated caterers ranging from a formal dinner with a Michelin recommended private chef and waitresses service to fish and chips cooked in the garden.
We have 7 bedrooms, 3 are ensuite, plus we have a funky children's dorm in the attic sleeping up to 4 children.
Set in 17 acres with a private pool, tennis court, croquet lawn and woodlands you can escape from the world and focus on simple pleasures. The gardens are a stunning feature and contain spectacular yew hedges, topiary and what remains of the old moat.
Children have the freedom to run around and explore with a sense of adventure - escaping to the tree house or building a den in the woods when they need a break from adults or if you need a break from them! If you have older children we can organise camping in the grounds in bell tents.
There is wildlife in abundance here - muntjac and occasionally other deer, foxes, hares, rabbits, owls, green woodpeckers and house martins nesting in the eaves. Badgers and otters have been spotted in the village. In addition we have our own hens, geese and peacocks.
There's lots to see and do for all ages making use of the extensive grounds or you can just simply relax. We can organise a range of activities on your behalf in the grounds - tennis lessons, shooting, archery, bushcraft, birds of prey and hawk flying to name but a few. There are extensive countryside walks right from the door. If you'd rather be pampered we can arrange for a Champney's trained therapist to visit you here.
If you want to travel further afield we can point you in the right direction to explore the best that Norfolk and Suffolk have to offer whether that's the stunning North Norfolk coast or Southwold, Walberswick and the Suffolk coast, the Norfolk Broads, the Queen's home at Sandringham, historic houses and museums, local breweries or magical childen's attractions such as Bewilderwood, Banham Zoo and The Dinosuar Adventure Park.
Our own dogs love it here and we are very happy to welcome yours by prior arrangement and will even provide them with treats.
The outdoor swimming pool is heated and is open from May to September.
If you would like a mid-stay clean or additional housekeeping we can arrange that for an additional fee.

A novel British escape
I reserved The Old Hall for a celebration of my wife's 70th birthday. Our party was comprised of four couples, and the main draw for us was the house itself. She and I saw the reviews of others who had stayed there, and we knew very little about the Norfolk area. To say that the house did not disappoint was an understatement. Every nook and cranny of the home, and there were a plethora of them, was a charming adventure. The grounds were expansive, well-manicured and gorgeous as well. Perhaps the unexpected surprise was the whole Norfolk area itself. We found ourselves enjoying a wide range of outings that varied from a short driving distance away to a destination of over an hour by car. We loved our outing to Sandringham, the seaside town of Holt, the city of Norwich and the gardens of East Ruston Old Vicarage. Everywhere we traveled the people were extraordinarily friendly and the landscape bucolic. The Old Hall's owner, Janine, was unfailingly responsive and a treasure trove of information. The house is full of idiosyncrasies, which is part of its charm, and Janine broke down the complexities in a manageable manner that didn't overwhelm us. She took an active role is setting up Pop Up dinners at the house and an eventing supper with Bill the Fish Man catering. She also recommended pubs, walks and shopping alternatives that always "hit the mark". We can't speak highly enough about our trip to Norfolk, and The Old Hall was a major reason that it resonated so well with all of us. If you are interested in exploring a destination that is a "hidden gem" you can't go wrong by reserving a week at this special home. ”
Super stay in a lovely historic home
A privilege to stay in such a historic house. Janine and team have done a great job ensuring anyone who stays here has a great time: there's the swimming pool, the tennis court, the fire pit to toast marshmallows (all set up, marshmallows provided), the garden and of course the lovely house. This is set up to host guests so is more than a family home: the team can organise catering, activities etc, for you, but it still has the feel of a family home. Perfect!”
The Old Hall
We stayed a week at The Old Hall and instead of sightseeing ended up staying at home enjoying the beautiful hall and lovely gardens. Many properties are described as quintessential English country homes but this one is definitely it! We spent our time reading in the many reception rooms, strolling and sitting in the garden, or sunbathing and swimming in the pool. A wonderful holiday! ”
My family spent 1 week at this beautiful home. All needed facilities with excellent living space as well as lush gardens beautifully landscaped made my family stay a special one and very memorable. Janine is an excellent host and has looked and taken her property to an exceptional level. 5 stars all the way. Thanks for accommodating requests and being so efficient. All the very best to you and your family. Francisco”
Our Beautiful English Country Vacation
We just returned from spending a week at this magnificent property. Not only did we get the house, we also enjoyed the whole experience. The owner helped us book archery and air rifle instruction right on the grounds, and helped us set up in-house catering with a lovely company, and even helped us book reservations at nearby restaurants. It was the best vacation ever. I can not say enough about it. Thank you, Janine. Mr. and Mrs. Tony Lo Bianco”
Truly Exceptional Home!
We have had the privilege of staying in some wonderful homes through our membership of 3rd Home but The Old Hall has to top them all by a considerable degree. Firstly the opportunity to stay in such an outstanding historic home was truly amazing. Words cannot describe the beauty of this wonderful building which, despite its obvious grandeur, is a really welcoming "home". The whole house is furnished exquisitely with beautiful fabrics, comfortable beds and top quality sheets and towels. With no fewer than 3 sitting rooms to choose from, a really well-equipped homely farmhouse kitchen complete with aga, the beautiful thatched summer house and 7 delightful bedrooms, the house is incredibly spacious and ideally suited to large groups or family gatherings. The extensive gardens are stunning and being fortunate with the weather, we were able to make full use of the lovely heated pool and tennis court. Unfortunately, we weren't able to take advantage of the many services on offer but there is a whole host of catering, entertainment options and activities that can be organised both on site or in the local area. We cannot thank Janine, Bec and the staff enough for their kind hospitality and we really hope we will be able to return in the not too distant future.”
