A wonderful stay in Northern Iceland

My brother and I had a wonderful weeklong stay at this absolutely extravagant cabin overlooking a beautiful valley near Vaglaskógur. The cabin was quiet, peaceful, and well-appointed. This charming property had all the amenities that we needed for the two of us, including a fully equipped kitchen, large decks, and even a washer and dryer, hot tub, and sauna for our use. The beds were comfortable and there were extra blankets and pillows as needed; this well decorated home was excellent in all aspects. Everything was meticulous right down to the minute details. The entire stay was relaxing and comfortable and we could not have had a better time together. The home has large windows with sweeping and stunning views of the valley. The neighbors are far away and only a few were at their properties once in a while. It is also a great location for observing the Northern lights. Wi-fi in the house is excellent. The home is located just outside Akureyri, the second largest city in Iceland and a superb location for sightseeing. We rented a Dacia Duster 4x4 from Round.is at the KEF airport and took the F35 dirt road up north. It took us all day, as we made various stops, but it was worth it. The host had sent us a Google Maps link which we used for directions. We visited the sights along the Diamond Circle in two days. The first day we drove the Southern part and then returned to the home and the next day we did the Northern part of the route. We visited sights in and around Akureyri a few days and took the scenic route around the tunnel most of the time. The highlight of our stay in mid September was attending local réttirs on 3 different days. It’s when the farmers in a village or valley round up all their sheep who have been roaming around in the mountains all summer and sort them out to return them to their individual farms for the winter. The gracious hosts went above and beyond to make our stay a five-star experience. Their communication was excellent, from initial correspondence and information detailing everything we needed to know to be comfortable in the home to replying in a timely manner to questions we had about using some features of the home. They even let us know about a nearby réttir and provided us with directions on how to get there from the house. We are grateful and thankful to Víðir and Knútur for the opportunity to let us stay at their Iceland retreat. We highly recommend this property. ”

Jaw-dropping vistas

This is a beautifully designed, "chalet" style home in a pristine valley located less than 20 minutes from Iceland's second largest city. It's a perfect jumping off point to explore the less travelled North end of the island. The driving distances are significant but not to be missed. Depending on your flight arrival times, consider driving one way between Reykjavik and Akureyri and flying in the reverse. The host was gracious and helpful in every respect. Put it on your bucket list!”
