Panoramic Potomac View
This three bedroom, three and a half bath home is situated in colonial Old Town Alexandria, the most desirable part of of the city, steps from a park on the Potomac. This home was chosen as one of six for the prestigious 2019 Alexandria Historic Home Tour.
The house is on a unique no-thru-traffic street which is its own little neighborhood. It is right across the river from Washington D.C., just 15 minutes over a bridge by either Metro or car.
This town home was taken down to the studs and completely remodeled 9 years ago, so baths, kitchen, electric, plumbing etc are almost new. It is well furnished to be suitable for use by high level Washington diplomats.
A TV room, with wet bar, large sectional couch, laundry area and powder room are on the lower level. The main level has a large living room, a 20 foot dining room and kitchen.
The bedroom level has the Master with a California King, a walk in closet and full marble bath with shower and soak tub. A second bedroom on that floor has two extra long twins, and there is a separate sitting room. There is a very nice full marble bath in the hall.
The upper level has a good sized queen bedroom with views of the Potomac, a good sized study, with a pull out single bed, a full hall bath, skylights and a staircase to the roof deck, a rare feature in Old Town, overlooking the River.
From the roof deck one has a panoramic view all the way up the Potomac to the Capitol. It's a wonderful place with an unsurpassed view to have lunch or dinner.
The home has everything a guest will need including laundry stain removers and soaps, saran wrap and spices. It is completely furnished to every detail; all you need to bring is food and your clothes.
One can take a ferry directly to the Washington Nationals Ball Park or one can spend an evening on a dinner cruise while viewing the D.C. monuments which are lit at night.
A private Christmas Tree Patio is in the rear.
This home is within 2 blocks of the marina which has several popular restaurants, the ferry landing, river cruise lines, the WWII Torpedo Factory which has been converted into a large art center, and large river-side public plazas with seating benches and live entertainment - - - magicians, musicians, and artists who draw and paint right there. There is also a famous musician who plays show tunes, Souza marches, and other scores with all 10 fingers on a table of water-filled wine glasses.
Alexandria's famous shopping street with more wonderful restaurants, boutique shops, art galleries and antique stores hooks directly into the ferry plaza.
A free trolley leaves every 15 minutes at the river end of that main shopping street to take one along that stretch to the Metro into DC. It can stop every 2 blocks so that people can get off for shopping or restaurants. A trolley trip is the best way to orient oneself as to what's available in the area.
The City of Alexandria goes all out to make it a special place during holidays. On President's Day there is a big parade as well as other community festivities. For the Fourth of July, Christmas and New Years they have extensive decorations and community programs. On some holidays they also have fireworks shows on a barge in the River right off our roof deck, as you can see in one of the photos. It is the best viewing spot in town. And of course the D.C. March Cherry Blossom festival is always a popular draw. But nothing beats the popularity of Spring Break.

Old Town Gem
Our stay in this townhouse located in Old Town was nothing short of fantastic! The home provided all the comforts and luxury we would expect plus the convenience to everything we could ever imagine in the DC and surrounding area. We could easily walk to the waterfront and enjoy the sights or make our way to famous King Street for food, shopping, coffee, and ice cream. We made several ventures into DC and as long as we were not in rush hour, it was a smooth 15-minute Uber ride. Peggy, the homeowner, was so nice and easy to work as we planned our visit. She insisted on having breakfast treats for our first morning in the home, knowing we’d be weary from a long day of travel. I hope to return, as we barely skimmed the surface of all there is to see and do. I wouldn't change a thing about this THIRDHOME experience. ”
Location, location, location!
We have visited the D.C. area many times, but never staying in Virginia. This was the perfect enclave to the bustle of D.C.....and just 20 minutes by Metro to Museums and the Hill (a free trolley runs daily), This home specifically is a comfortable, East-coast classic, welcoming host, and all the amenities your family visit requires. Charming and right on the water - a lovely Old Town retreat!”
Wow! What a view!
Peggy met us at the residence and explained all the particulars about the 4 story townhouse with an additional rooftop patio that was amazing! There was a back patio also that we ejoyed every morning and evening before going out on our adventure into D.C., or on a short walk to the vibrant night life of Alexandria full of restaurants and shops we throughly enjoyed. Peggy even had us set up with several items for breakfast and snacks. Thanks again for sharing your home with us. Rusty & Lisa ”
Our stay in Peggy Rhodes' Alexandria townhome was wonderful. The home is immaculate, with a lovely patio and roof top. The history of our country emanates from the pictures on the walls and the library. Main street Alexandria is a short walk away, with excellent dining options. D.C. a 15 min Uber ride away. Our hostess could not have been more gracious. Highly recommended!”
This was a peaceful oasis in a perfect location in Alexandria. We came to see the historic sites and museums in Washington DC but really appreciated retreating back to our roomy and comfortable oasis in Old Town Alexandria. We were just 5 minutes from the main business streets with lovely shops and restaurants and Trolley line and the water taxi. Peggy was an attentive and gracious host, giving us all the information and guidance needed. Lovely outdoor patio for morning coffee!”
Fantastic trip. My family and I enjoyed all that Washington had to offer from the convenience of Old Town Alexandria. The house is top of the line and very close to the water, restaurants, shopping and metro. Peggy is a gracious host and very helpful with recommendations for activities in Washington. ”
Wonderful home and fantastic location
We had a great time in and around Washington, the home was amazing, and the location simply stunning. ”
Five star property
We were so pleased with our extremely well located and well appointed property in Alexandria. It was just a wonderful week with easy access to the trolley and the metro and downtown DC. The townhouse is configured on different levels so that all family members had their own space. There is a park across the street by the side of the River so the children could play. It is a wonderful property and the owner went out of her way to extend every hospitality to us. Thanks for a great week!! Janie Stewart”
