Description

Mount Juliet

Mount Juliet is one of the most acclaimed and luxurious country estates in Ireland. Immersed in history, Mount Juliet House was built by the Earl of Carrick who named the house after his wife, Lady Juliana, also known as Juliet. It remained in the same family from the 1750's until 1914. This stunning townhouse sits on 1700 square feet and offers three bedrooms.

The Georgian mansion, which is perched on a dramatic site overlooking the River Nore, was then bought by the McCalmont family who lived there until 1989 before it was turned into the luxury Hotel. The Lady Helen restaurant in Mount Juliet House is both stylish and quickly developing a growing reputation as one of the best restaurants in the South East of Ireland.

Mount Juliet is a luxury, spacious townhouse set in a square overlooking paddocks and the famous Jack Nicklaus championship golf course within the 1500-acre Mount Juliet Estate in Kilkenny. It has been kept to exquisite standards and has a fantastic Southerly aspect which ensures all day sun in the back garden.

The townhouse has three bedrooms, two of which have bathrooms, TVs, a fully-equipped chefs kitchen, dining area, and lounge. Two sets of double patio doors open on to the private rear garden which overlooks a secluded shared back garden and a small paddock where horses are always present. The third bedroom is small and only suitable for a child.

This townhouse offers the best of both worlds to guests and is ideal for guests who require more space and privacy.

July 2017

A TRULY WONDERFUL HOLIDAY!!

Enjoyed a tranquil and relaxing stay at John & his wife’s beautiful home in July 2017, which is situated directly on the golf course of the stunningly beautiful and historic Mount Juliet Estate. We were delighted to find a thoughtful starter pack of fresh bread, eggs, cheese and milk, coffee and beer to welcome us after our long journey. This open concept home, complete with chef’s kitchen, spacious bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms, cozy living room and large back patio overlooking horse paddocks, offers a lovely home-away-from-home following busy days of exploring the area. Guests are welcome to use all the paid activities at Mount Juliet, including the Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course, horseback riding, fishing, archery, falconry and afternoon tea. Or you can simply meander the lovely nature trails and gardens throughout the estate at your leisure. Nearby Thomastown (a short drive or 5km walk) features several excellent local restaurants (including The Blackberry Café which is a great spot for lunch) a few shops, and some pretty picnic spots along the banks of the River Nore. From Thomastown, you can explore local potteries and the historic ruins of Jerpoint Abbey. Or you can drive or take the train into Kilkenny town proper. A vibrant and colourful town with great shopping, tons of local handicrafts, and pubs featuring a vast variety of craft beers, ciders & great music, you will need to make several trips into Kilkenny to see everything that it has to offer! Not to be missed is Kilkenny Castle (built in 1195), the Smithwick’s Brewery Tour experience, the stained glass windows of Black Abbey (16th century), and if you are brave enough to climb the 100ft 9th century round tower of St. Canice’s Cathedral, you can enjoy stunning views for miles around. An evening in Kilkenny town would not be complete without a bowl of Irish stew at Kyteler’s Inn (established in 1324), followed by theatre, music or dance at The Watergate Theatre. For longer stays, hiking around Glendalough in the Wicklow Mountains (set of tv series VIKINGS) and St. Kevin’s Monastery is a great day trip, or the City of Waterford (crystal tours) is an hour’s drive. If you fly into Dublin Airport you can stop in Glendalough on the drive down to Kilkenny. This property is so comfortable, and Mount Juliet is so lovely you will be tempted not to leave, but there is so much to see within a short distance and something for every family member to enjoy. A rental car is recommended. Great nearby supermarket for groceries, lots of organic and vegan options and local artisan breads. A perfect spot for those who love sports, history, shopping, arts, food & beverage, live music or just relaxing in gorgeous scenery. The photos simply do not do the property justice! Thank you for a truly wonderful holiday!! ”
