Santa Fe, New Mexico
This beautiful 5 bedroom, 4 bath, 3,600 sq. ft. luxury vacation home is on Palace Ave. (Palace Ave. got its name around 1610, as the Palace of the Governors is on the Plaza and on Palace Ave.) in the Historical District, only a short walk to the famous Plaza, Canyon Road, and all historical sites!
The home's great room features 13 foot beamed ceiling, huge beams and corbels, and hand plastered walls. The chef's kitchen with granite countertops and all new appliances (including a gas cook top stove and a double oven) is perfect for large groups and reunions. The kitchen is fully equipped with cooking utensils, pots and pans, place mats, and lots of plates and glasses.
We have original art by New Mexican artists and richly colored Oriental rugs that brighten our beautiful oak floors. We also have a large wood fireplace and sitting area in the great room that adds ambience in the winter. Everything is new!
We have 4 flat panel TV's throughout the house. There is a 55 inch flat panel HDTV in the great room with DVD player. All of the TV's are on a Comcast cable bundle. We also have Apple TV and NetFlix on the great room TV. There are three 40 inch flat panels TV's in 3 of the bedrooms. Two are in the upstairs king bedrooms and one in the downstairs bedroom. There are music CD's and a collection of movie DVD's, as well as a large assortment of board games.
There are 2 king bedrooms, 2 queen bedrooms, and a down stairs bedroom that has 2 double beds and an en suite bathroom. There is also a queen sofa sleeper and a large couch in the great room. We can comfortably accommodate 15 people. There are 4 bathrooms in Casa Bonita, two of which are en suite.
For your convenience, the laundry room has a new washer and dryer, detergent, ironing board and iron.
During a summer visit, come home and relax in the big bubbling hot tub before you gather for drinks on the beautiful breezy (and covered) front patio. You can then barbecue on our gas grill and dine outside in the private walled garden.
There is a 2 car garage, a large driveway and on street parking for multiple cars on El Alamo Ave. in front of the house. Parking is never a problem which in Santa Fe is rare!.
Casa Bonita is ideally located and only a 8 - 10 minute walk to everything you came to Santa Fe for. Whatever you choose to do; you can stroll to museums, galleries, churches, restaurants, go shopping, or the grocery store.
In the winter, ski 1/2 hour drive up the mountain at Ski Santa Fe, or go sledding in the park. Currently the Santa Fe Ski Basin has an 89 inch base and 77 lifts!! The entire mountain is open. Come home and relax in the big bubbling hot tub with foot massage jets before you gather for drinks in the huge great room.
Fun things to do while in Santa Fe: Casa Bonita is on the road to the ski basin for the skiers and snow boarders in the winter. Santa Fe Ski Basin is 20 - 30 minutes from Casa Bonita and has a 77 runs! The Ski Basin usually opens around Thanksgiving and has great snow! Why spend money to fly to Utah or Colorado if you can drive to Santa Fe!
Other activities you can take advantage of in the summer include hiking, rock climbing, golfing, fishing, hunting, wildlife viewing, river rafting and kayaking on the Rio Grande, horseback riding, shopping, restaurants, museums, and bar hoping. We love to go to the Bandelier National Cliff Dwellings site which is 45 minutes from Santa Fe. There are over a hundred cliff dwellings at Bandelier dating back a thousand years. You can climb ladders to a number of the cliff dwellings! We normally take a picnic basket with us and have lunch there after walking through the park.
The annual Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque in October is a bucket list experience! You arrive just before the sunrise and watch over 100 hot air balloons take off! It is amazing!
You can also drive to Taos and ride in a hot air balloon into the Gorge, land on the river and take off! Another bucket list must do but make a reservation!
We also enjoy taking the Cumbres and Tolec Scenic Train from Chama to Osier and back in the summer. It is an old classic steam train from the mining and logging days. We recommend lunch at Osier and then a return on the train to Chama. The lunch at Osier is great! It is a day long trip and a lot of fun. The views are stunning. We have seen large herds of Elk while riding the train. Unlike the Silverton, Colorado train you are up high in the Rockies with great views!
There are numerous Wineries and Casinos near Santa Fe. As you leave Santa Fe and head north towards Taos there are a number of Casinos & wineries/ tasting rooms along the highway. You can spend a fun day just stopping at the tasting rooms and trying their wines and enjoying the Casinos.

Great villa, well stocked gem near Plaza
This was one of the greatest weeks I have spent in a long time, not the least of which is owed to a wonderful home in a great location near the center of everything but far enough away to be tranquil. The villa is well organized to accommodate a few or many and is the best stocked home I have stayed in which meant we could spend more time having fun. I highly recommend Santa Fe and surrounds and this is the perfect villa from which to make it happen. Thank you Doug and Bonnie!”
