Although Caye Caulker was very different than anything we've been to before, we really enjoyed our stay and the 5 bedroom penthouse allowed our extended family to stay under one roof! The international airport and the small companies (Maya or Tropic Air) are right at the same small airport making 90 minutes plenty of time to fly into Belize, claim your luggage and walk through a set of doors to the small airline. (You don't need pay the optional bag handler to walk your luggage through the doors- it's right there.)\\n\\nThe beach has soft sand and the available kayaks made it easy to paddle out and enjoy the shallow reef which has an abundance of sea life. Swimming around the dock area is possible but going out across the bay to the actual reef and crystal clear water is where you will see all the wildlife. \\nWe went almost everyday in the kayaks out to the reef. We did snorkeling and a dive in the famous marine reserve area (Hol Chan) which was a short boat ride away and saw everything from eagle rays to baracuda, moray eels and nurse sharks. And not just one but serveral! Also the dive shop picked us up and dropped us off right at the dock which was convenient.\\n\\nI recommend you rent a golf cart (mode of transportation for most of the islanders) for your stay which is about $35-40 dollars per day as there are not many shops and only a few restaurants close by. Town is about a 20 minute golf cart ride away. \\\"Rocks\\\" golf cart company delivered the golf cart to the house and at the end of the stay we drove it back to town and they dropped us off at the airport (a few blocks away) for no charge. With the cart we went to Secret Beach across the island a few times and into town every night. Highly recommend getting dinner and enjoying the weekend live entertainment and outdoor movie and games at \\\"The Truck Stop\\\". Great vibe there for the whole family. And we felt very safe everywhere on the islands day and night.\\n\\nThe care takers Benjamin and Adi live on-site in the back which was a huge plus. A wealth of information! He was also willing to do tours of either side of the island. But visitors at Blue Zen can easily explore the north side on their own…a highlight being Bliss Beach. Go without food or drink, as they have all of that, plus shade areas and access to the beach and warm water without sargassum. Unfortunately Blue Zen and others on the east side had to deal with this situation earlier than usual ( it’s coming across the Atlantic). But it didn’t hinder our kayaking nor our pool times. \\n\\nTerri \\u0026 Dean’s second floor condo faces east, the beach, and a few feet from two pools, two restaurants and a store. The filtered water, automatically dispensed in the fridge, along with the bathrooms, was great, as was the ice maker using filtered water in the freezer. Laundry facilities in suite, smart TV’s, and kitchen appliances were great; but bring coffee pods, as only a few are supplied. There are other eating and drinking places on the north side I haven’t mentioned which are worthwhile, too.
