Description

CHALET OLYMPIC

Welcome to Chalet Olympic, a luxury mountain retreat in the heart of the Austrian Alps. Chalet Olympic is perfectly placed within the Ski Amade region, a network of ski areas and towns that combined, make up the largest ski area in Europe. The resorts are made up of 28 villages in five principal regions that make up the alliance.

The region has a good record of snowfall during the winter months. There are 860 km of downhill slopes and 278 modern ski lifts, with all the resorts linked by bus, or easy drive.

Chalet Olympic is a fully self-contained two story, five bedrooms house, with three bathrooms, separate W.C, sauna and shower room. The ground floor is accessed through a lobby with plenty of room for coat and ski book storage. The lobby has access to the ground floor W.C. and main hallway.

In the Hallway you'll find a “Kachelofen”, a traditional Austrian stove for heating the house and drying/warming cold or damp ski wear! Also accessed from the main hallway are the stairs and main living area. This comprises of a large, well furnished lounge, with access to the sauna/shower room, and French windows to the garden.

The main living area features comfortable seating for ten people, flat screen TV with Cable channels, DVD player, Hi-Fi with ipod and MP3 docking.

The dining area and kitchen are also part of the open plan living room. The dining area also seats ten, with an additional bench around the Kachelofen. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with oven and hob, steam oven and microwave. There is a large fridge and dishwasher, as well as a sauna to enjoy after a long day on the slopes!

The bedroom accommodation is on the first floor. Two bedrooms are linked to create a family apartment; access to this apartment is from the landing, through the double bunk room to a 25㎡ twin room. The modern en-suite bathroom contains shower and wc.

From the landing there are two well-proportioned twin rooms, both approximately 20㎡, sharing an outside balcony. Also accessed from the landing is the family bathroom, containing shower and W.C.

The master bedroom is 28㎡, with king-size double bed and en-suite bathroom, containing bath, shower and W.C. It has fabulous views of the mountains from the large picture windows.

Extended and fully refurbished in the summer of 2012, the house is perfectly placed for both summer and winter holidays. Chalet Olympic sits in the Hamlet of Neuberg, just 4 Km from Filzmoos, within the province of Salzburg. It has easy access to Motorway and railway links, and is a 45 minute drive from Salzburg Airport.

There is off-road parking for 4 cars by the house, plus an individual garage for car or ski storage.

For your self catering needs there are 2 well stocked supermarkets locally; in Filzmoos, 4kms from the house, there is an MPREIS supermarket (100m right of the roundabout). There is a slightly larger Spar supermarket, in the centre of Eben about 7kms from the house.

There are many options available for eating and drinking locally. The nearest restaurant within walking distance is the hotel Alpenhof – just 200m or so down the hill. The hotel has a good restaurant, serving traditional Austrian food, and, much like most other hotels in the area, they are more than happy to serve non-residents.

Filzmoos is part of the Salzburger Sportwelt, and Chalet Olympic is just 100m from the Geierberglift drag lift, that is part of the system that links Neuberg to Filzmoos itself. Guests tend to spend a day skiing in Filzmoos, which has 6 main lifts either side of the valley, with 15 or so runs. The days almost always end up with Apres Ski in the Happy Filzmoos, a great bar!

There are at least 12 resorts within a 20 minute drive of the house, amongst the owner's favourites are Wagrain, Flachauwinkel, Zauchansee and Schladming.

Ski Amade is perfect for getting out and exploring, with ski runs to suite all abilities. For the more adventurous there is ample opportunity to get off-piste, and for advanced skiers, knowledgeable and well trained local guides are available through Sport Stefan, who the owners recommend for all equipment hire.

The Ski Amade region also boasts an amazing 700km of marked cross country Nordic skiing routes. Owners can put you in touch with local snow-shoeing guides for a more leisurely view of the beautiful mountain scenery, if preferred.

Tobogan runs are also available at Wagrain and Schladming for the fearless!

The resorts of Schladming/Planai, Reiteralm, Flachau and Zauchensee all have runs which are used for the annual Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit, with our favorite being the night-time floodlit men’s slalom event in Schladming. This is one of Austria’s biggest sporting events, with 50,000 people cramming into the town for the event. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic - Make sure you arrive early to get any sort of view!

As an added bonus for guests, the owners provide 8 free wanderbus passes for guests during the summer months.

You can enjoy:

Hiking
Guided walks
Mountain climbing
Mountain Biking
Road cycling
Horse riding
Carriage rides
Archery
Tennis
Rafting
Golf

…or just plain relaxing! Visit the Filzmoos tourist office website for more detailed information on all of the above activities, plus a few more suggestions.

Filzmoos and the surrounding area has dozens of restaurants – from the world renown 2 star Michelin rated “Hubertus“, serving international cuisine, to the excellent “Pinocchio Pizzeria” – both within 50m of each other, but at somewhat different ends of the culinary spectrum!

Amazing Ski Amade Home Base

Chalet Olympic was the perfect lodging solution for our Austrian spring skiing adventure! The home was clean and very well appointed, beds very comfortable, and the location was fantastic. Every morning, we hit a different mountain in the Ski Amade region and it was normally less than 30 minutes to the lifts. Tons of food/restaurant options nearby, gorgeous driving in every direction and really easy for a foreigner to navigate. Nick was a great host and was always very responsive. He provided some wonderful recommendations that became highlights. Can't recommend this place enough!”

Filzmoos is incredible location

Nick's place was perfect. We had a group of five and had a ton of room. Very easy drive to Salzburg for a day trip and plenty to do in the area (highly recommend the Dachstein tram in the summer). The entire area is the quinstessential postcard view of the Alps. Very close to town for groceries, restaurants etc. The chalet has everything you need and a nice back patio for breakfast or evening drinks. Would love to come back here.”
