Description

CHALET OLYMPIC

Welcome to Chalet Olympic, a luxury mountain retreat in the heart of the Austrian Alps. Chalet Olympic is perfectly placed within the Ski Amade region, a network of ski areas and towns that combined, make up the largest ski area in Europe. The resorts are made up of 28 villages in five principal regions that make up the alliance.

The region has a good record of snowfall during the winter months. There are 860 km of downhill slopes and 278 modern ski lifts, with all the resorts linked by bus, or easy drive.

Chalet Olympic is a fully self-contained two story, five bedrooms house, with three bathrooms, separate W.C, sauna and shower room. The ground floor is accessed through a lobby with plenty of room for coat and ski book storage. The lobby has access to the ground floor W.C. and main hallway.

In the Hallway you'll find a “Kachelofen”, a traditional Austrian stove for heating the house and drying/warming cold or damp ski wear! Also accessed from the main hallway are the stairs and main living area. This comprises of a large, well furnished lounge, with access to the sauna/shower room, and French windows to the garden.

The main living area features comfortable seating for ten people, flat screen TV with Cable channels, DVD player, Hi-Fi with ipod and MP3 docking.

The dining area and kitchen are also part of the open plan living room. The dining area also seats ten, with an additional bench around the Kachelofen. The kitchen is modern and well equipped, with oven and hob, steam oven and microwave. There is a large fridge and dishwasher, as well as a sauna to enjoy after a long day on the slopes!

The bedroom accommodation is on the first floor. Two bedrooms are linked to create a family apartment; access to this apartment is from the landing, through the double bunk room to a 25㎡ twin room. The modern en-suite bathroom contains shower and wc.

From the landing there are two well-proportioned twin rooms, both approximately 20㎡, sharing an outside balcony. Also accessed from the landing is the family bathroom, containing shower and W.C.

The master bedroom is 28㎡, with king-size double bed and en-suite bathroom, containing bath, shower and W.C. It has fabulous views of the mountains from the large picture windows.

Extended and fully refurbished in the summer of 2012, the house is perfectly placed for both summer and winter holidays. Chalet Olympic sits in the Hamlet of Neuberg, just 4 Km from Filzmoos, within the province of Salzburg. It has easy access to Motorway and railway links, and is a 45 minute drive from Salzburg Airport.

There is off-road parking for 4 cars by the house, plus an individual garage for car or ski storage.

For your self catering needs there are 2 well stocked supermarkets locally; in Filzmoos, 4kms from the house, there is an MPREIS supermarket (100m right of the roundabout). There is a slightly larger Spar supermarket, in the centre of Eben about 7kms from the house.

There are many options available for eating and drinking locally. The nearest restaurant within walking distance is the hotel Alpenhof – just 200m or so down the hill. The hotel has a good restaurant, serving traditional Austrian food, and, much like most other hotels in the area, they are more than happy to serve non-residents.

Filzmoos is part of the Salzburger Sportwelt, and Chalet Olympic is just 100m from the Geierberglift drag lift, that is part of the system that links Neuberg to Filzmoos itself. Guests tend to spend a day skiing in Filzmoos, which has 6 main lifts either side of the valley, with 15 or so runs. The days almost always end up with Apres Ski in the Happy Filzmoos, a great bar!

There are at least 12 resorts within a 20 minute drive of the house, amongst the owner's favourites are Wagrain, Flachauwinkel, Zauchansee and Schladming.

Ski Amade is perfect for getting out and exploring, with ski runs to suite all abilities. For the more adventurous there is ample opportunity to get off-piste, and for advanced skiers, knowledgeable and well trained local guides are available through Sport Stefan, who the owners recommend for all equipment hire.

The Ski Amade region also boasts an amazing 700km of marked cross country Nordic skiing routes. Owners can put you in touch with local snow-shoeing guides for a more leisurely view of the beautiful mountain scenery, if preferred.

Tobogan runs are also available at Wagrain and Schladming for the fearless!

The resorts of Schladming/Planai, Reiteralm, Flachau and Zauchensee all have runs which are used for the annual Alpine Skiing World Cup circuit, with our favorite being the night-time floodlit men’s slalom event in Schladming. This is one of Austria’s biggest sporting events, with 50,000 people cramming into the town for the event. The atmosphere is absolutely fantastic - Make sure you arrive early to get any sort of view!

As an added bonus for guests, the owners provide 8 free wanderbus passes for guests during the summer months.

You can enjoy:

Hiking
Guided walks
Mountain climbing
Mountain Biking
Road cycling
Horse riding
Carriage rides
Archery
Tennis
Rafting
Golf

…or just plain relaxing! Visit the Filzmoos tourist office website for more detailed information on all of the above activities, plus a few more suggestions.

Filzmoos and the surrounding area has dozens of restaurants – from the world renown 2 star Michelin rated “Hubertus“, serving international cuisine, to the excellent “Pinocchio Pizzeria” – both within 50m of each other, but at somewhat different ends of the culinary spectrum!

Great Location, fantastic skiing

Chalet Olympic is a great house in a great location. The house was very comfortable with a well equipped kitchen. Nick, the owner gave us great tips, and true to his word you can’t find a bad restaurant in town. If you are a vegetarian it may be a bit more challenging but as meat lovers we were in heaven. The Filzmoos ski area is a good warmup for the first day with easy runs and no crowds but aggressive skiers may wish to dive in to the other areas right off the bat. We really enjoyed Schladaming. I wondered how the base snow level was so good with not much snow this year. The answer - state of the art snowmaking everywhere. The lifts and snowmaking are first class and the amount of groomed trails is unbelievable. They must have a full army in the thousands out at night to cover the amount of grooming. For those that like to ski fast I strongly encourage you to be at the gondola at 8:30 and your reward will be any of the huge wide trails all to yourself. If I was younger I am sure I could have broken my 82mph ski tracks top speed record no problem. About 11:30 the sun is shining on the outdoor tables at the many mountain restaurants and it is time to stop for drinks and a two hour lunch. Late in the day the loose snow starts to pile up and you have to slow down a bit. There was no wind and blue bird sky every day and many lifts had heated seats. We found ourselves shedding layers as the week went on. It was balloon week and the sky filled with dozens of hot air balloons each day. We truly felt like we were in a postcard. Make sure to bring Euros, many places don’t take credit cards. Also consider all wheel drive rental vehicles, otherwise if it snows you may have to park in the lot below the house and walk 100 meters up the road. Reasonable cost food (75-175€ for dinner and drinks for 5), great snow, gorgeous views, miles of trails, all at an altitude below 6500 feet for a 52€ a day lift ticket, what more could you want?”

Cozy home - Great Location

Our family of 5 enjoyed Chalet Olympic for 11 nights in June, an ideal time to visit the Austrian Alps with lovely mild weather, bright blue skies and gorgeous alpine flowers all around. Less than an hour from Salzburg with many historic and interesting places to visit and explore nearby, Chalet Olympic provided a comfortable place for us to relax and set our own pace. Filzmoos is a picturesque historic village great for strolling with good restaurants and shopping. We loved Alt Filzmoos. I highly recommend Chalet Olympic for your Austrian vacation.”

Powder skiing

We had a wonderful time at Chalet Olympic. The home provided a wonderful base for exploring the Ski Amade region. The main floor layout was nicely spaced out so we could keep an eye on one 4 you're by kids while the two adult couples could enjoy each other's company. And with the bedrooms all upstairs and separated by multiple doors, we were able to have complete quiet in the sleeping quarters even when people were still conversing downstairs. There were many great ski areas within a 20 minute drive. We were blessed with 4 powder days out of 7. I really liked Zauchesnee and flachauwinkl. I had to hunt for steep terrain, but it was there. And each area was much bigger than I thought it would be. Even little Filzmoos/Neuberg offer d enjoyable powder skiing. The beginners all stayed to the groomed pistes, leaving untracked glades and lift lines to enjoy. In all, I highly recommend the chalet and the area. I suggest engaging a guide to get the most out of the enormous ski domain. And also, the host helped us arrange a chef for two nights at the house. He was excellent and if available, an absolute must! Thanks for welcoming us in to your house. ”

Chalet Olympic

We just returned from a wonderful week skiing in Austria. We stayed at the Chalet Olympic, a 5 bedroom house, centrally located among numerous SkiAmade mountains. The house was very nice. Newly refurbished, very clean and very comfortable. Loved the showers and the beds! After skiing, we took advantage of the sauna and numerous movies that they have on hand. Washer/dryer and fast internet were key. Both the owner, Nick, and the house keeper, Conny, were very helpful and communicative prior to our arrival. They gave us numerous suggestions on what to do and where to eat during our stay. Conny gave birth to a baby boy during our stay! Congrats! Apparently, this was a tough winter season for skiing for the area. It was much warmer than usual, so we had to rely on local experts to find the best skiing. True “spring skiing”……… followed by sitting in the sun in the afternoons. There’s at least 5 mountains within a 20 minute drive to ski on. You will need to rent a car while when you are there. Salzburg is about a 40 minute drive. I strongly recommend going at least once or twice during your stay. Fabulous city, with great sights and amazing restaurants. We did the Sound of Music tour – which was a great was to see the city and the countryside. That night we watched the movie and saw all the places we had just visited. After our stay in Austria we drove to Munich, about a 2+ hour drive and did more exploring. While everyone spoke English, I don’t think the locals were used to having Americans visit. They could not have been any nicer to us. If you like skiing, the Chalet Olympic in Filzmoos, Austria is a great place to go. Thanks again Nick and Conny. ”
