Description

Sublime renovation of a caravanserai/funduq in the noble part of Taroudant's Medina.

Taroudant is situated east of Agadir on the road to Ouarzazate and the Sahara desert and south of Marrakesh. Nestled in the mountains of the High Atlas and the Anti-Atlas, Taroudant is the starting point for many treks and hikes.

The town is known as the "Grandmother of Marrakesh" because it looks like a smaller Marrakesh with its surrounding ramparts. In the sixteenth century, the Saadi dynasty briefly used Taroudant as a capital before it moved its royal seat onwards to Marrakesh.

The property is structured around two courtyards, one opening to a vast swimming pool. The buildings are traditional, mainly because of the material used (in the first place, clay).

However, everything has been thought of for this rural property to ooze sophistication. The colours of the walls, the lighting and the antique Berber materials (crafted by the owner in the anti-Atlas foothill) have been carefully chosen.

Entrance Hall provides plenty of storage space, a room and a laundry room. The beautiful courtyard is decorated with a fountain that offers a refreshing touch to this space.

The living area comprises a TV/Media room with a seating area and fireplace. A small study/double bedroom with a shower room/cloakroom.

The ground floor area features a self-contained flat for the housekeeper (kitchen, bathroom and double bedroom) and a pleasant courtyard with fruit trees and living spaces such as a changing room, shower room, cloakroom, lounge area with banquettes and a large storage room.

With a large seating area looking over tropical trees, a dining room that can seat up to 12 people, and a fireplace, visitors can enjoy dining al fresco or a charming soiree and appetizer.

Visitors can access a large kitchen with a central island, larders and storage areas, and modern appliances at the orange tree courtyard.

This space offers a vast outside dining table seating approximately 20 people and a massage room that will delight guests.

The Palm Tree Courtyard comprises a swimming pool, a Mexican garden and a sunbathing area, perfect for warmer days to refresh and relax under the sun.

The first floor of this unique property offers a large double-aspect drawing room with a fireplace looking over the garden and old riad.

A spacious suite on the 1st floor comprises a small seating area with fireplace, dressing area and en suite bathroom with bath and separate shower.

We find a comfortable Main Bedroom with an en suite bathroom and two double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms.

The two terraces with seating areas offer the perfect spot to enjoy the views and bring plenty of light to the inside.

The first floor has a double bedroom with a fireplace and en suite bathroom (bath and separate shower) with a balcony and terrace to enjoy the surrounding landscape.

The second floor welcomes visitors with two double bedrooms with a fireplace, an en suite bathroom (bath and separate shower), and a dressing room/TV room with a balcony overlooking the garden.

A large terrace comprises a long banquette facing west for sunsets, a sunbathing area with sunbeds, and a dining area.

All the living rooms and most bedrooms have air-conditioned for winter and summer.

This property is exceptional in the sense that it is right in the heart of the medina. It is spacious, light, peaceful and spacious, therefore suitable for a large family or group.

Taroudant is situated 40-50 minutes away by motorway from Agadir airport. The international Agadir airport has direct flights from Geneva, London and Paris by EasyJet, Ryanair and Royal Air Maroc.

This city is full of charming shops and squares. Visitors have the chance to explore and discover the Berber culture. The town is small enough and worth exploring on foot, getting lost in the little alleyways known for its local crafts, including jewellery and carpets. Unlike Marrakesh, almost the entire Taroudant city is inside its walls.

Outstanding stay

This may have been our favourite family vacation of all time. The villa was spectacular. But what made it really special was the team that saw to our every need. Hussein and Fatima made it a fantastic stay. There was amazing food and every comfort was addressed. There is a vast amount of space and the pool was very nice. The town was great to explore and more tranquil than the bigger cities. The people were very friendly. It’s helpful to speak French or Arabic. I hope we can return!”
