Description

Casa Norte at Casa Comunal

As seen on the leading modern architecture site Dwell, Casa Norte is half of Casa Comunal, a rustic home on the Caribbean beachfront. It shares a roof and entryway room with Casa Sur, our other property, but is separated by two sliding walls for total privacy.

Casa Norte is an architectural home set upon the shores of the Caribbean, a retreat for the senses surrounded by lush gardens, exotic fruit trees, tropical flowers, and two wide-open beachfront decks.

Understated luxury with Mid-Century furniture handcrafted by local artisans, this getaway boasts handwoven textiles, hammocks, hanging beds, suspended lounging nets, two kitchens, a private sandy beach, a sustainable rainwater catchment system, and more.

PLEASE READ:
Casa Comunal is a minimalist island home, located where the jungle meets the sea. While the home is very stylish, we recommend our guests be prepared for a rustic holiday. It is a combination of architectural simplicity and a glamping-type experience. This means you may encounter:
-Bugs
-Temporary power outages
-Temporary water stoppages
-Clogged toilets
-Etc.
Please keep in mind that tropical waterfront properties endure a lot of wear and tear. Our staff works daily on maintenance and cleaning and we will be there if you have any requests for repairs. However, the space always needs more work. If you require a high-end luxury hotel-type experience, we suggest you book a different accommodation.

House Rules

-Island Etiquette: The locals build their community off of conversation and communication and we highly recommend building a connection with whomever you may interact, especially our lovely maintenance and cleaning staff. Wave, smile and be friendly and they surely will do the same. Help us break the gringo barrier!
-Bocas is a remote island and while the local utility companies try their best, water scarcity and power outages can occasionally occur. We also do our best to make your stay comfortable when those issues arise, so please be sure to contact Angie and/or Ezequiel (our caretaker) right away if you encounter any such problem. We provide a house cell phone for this specific purpose so that you can make a call even if power and wifi go out. The sooner you inform us of an issue, the sooner we can start working on getting it fixed!
-Do not remove keys from locks except those you were given at check-in.
Check-in is at 3pm, Check-out is at 10am. Please ask if you need an exception.
-When there are waves in front, they break very powerfully over a sharp reef. Enter the water at your own risk. Surfing there is for EXPERTS ONLY.
-The reef is sharp and fragile. If you walk on it, do so cautiously and tread lightly.
-Use outdoor shower to rinse sandy clothes, sandals, bodies and gear before entering the house or using the indoor showers.
-Minimize toilet paper thrown into the toilet; and all feminine products go in the trash.
-Do not wear tinted sunscreens or tanning oils while on indoor furniture or bedding.
-Don’t sit on indoor furniture while wet.
-No cigarette smoking inside. You may smoke outside but please collect your cigarette butts and throw them in the trash to keep the property clean.
-Turn off all lights and fans before leaving the home.
-Only turn on the outdoor fans if you are under them.
-We try to use only the fresh rain water in our containers rather than the central water supply so please conserve water!
-Quiet hours start at 11pm as a courtesy to your neighbors.
-For your own safety, lock all doors when absent or at night.
-Don’t leave laptops or other valuables outside or inside in plain view while unattended.
-Store wet surfboards on the racks in the triangular entryway room or dry them first before bringing them into the house. Don’t put them on the furniture.
-Removing your shoes and leave them in the triangular entryway room.
-All books and records are at your disposal but must be returned at the end of your stay.

Additional Fees

$300 for the purchase of a fresh tank of water as our property operates on rainwater catchment and sometimes there is not enough rain to last for a week long stay.
