December 2025Truly Magical and "Best Vacation Ever"!
Our visit to Chateau d'Epinac over Christmas 2025 could not have been better! Though the castle could have easily held more people, we found it to be perfect for our group of 11 which included two families of four (including 16, 18, 19 and 21 year old "kids") and my parents and uncle (all over 80 years old). The castle itself is huge (and old) but the caretaker, Arnaud, made it feel like our home. He provided us with all of the things we could need (warm rooms, snacks/drinks for our arrival, ordered us pizza for the first night, brought us croissants/pastries our first morning, gave us great information about trips to local towns, made restaurant recommendations, took us to a local castle (Chateau de Sully) to tour/translate for us, brought us several board games to play with and made sure we had wifi (which was strongest in the main second floor living room) and a working TV (we brought a ROKU stick to stream Netflix, Youtube, etc...)). He was thoughtful enough to even bring us a Christmas tree and ornaments for us to decorate with plus dropped off some special food-escargot and oysters-for our Christmas Eve and Day meals. We can't say enough good things about Arnaud plus he lives just minutes away so it was easy for him to come by often to help us with anything we needed! The castle itself is quite old but very inviting and we truly were "handed the keys" and had the run of the property. The fireplaces weren't functioning (yet - repairs coming soon) but it had a good heating system so we weren't cold. There were plenty of rugs, bedding, towels, hairdryers, soap/shampoo, the electricity and plumbing were fine as well. The only thing we wished it had was a place to do laundry (though Arnaud did offer to do our laundry for us). The location is great if you have a car - we had one family rent a 5 passenger car in Paris, 3 people came into Chagny via Dijon from Paris by train and another family rented a 7 passenger car in Lyon. We went to the town of Autun (twice: once to tour the town and have lunch and another time to see the Temple of Janis, the old Roman Theater, the Couhard Pyramid, the acquaduct and eat at a Irish Pub), Beaune for lunch in a wine cellar then took a tour of the Patriarche winery that houses over 3 million bottles of wine UNDER the city and finally, to finally, Dijon to shop, walk around following the "owls" and have an early dinner. We also hired Chef Franck to make two meals for us (Christmas Eve and Christmas Day). He did a fantastic job (despite the language barrier) and we actually wished that we had asked him make another meal or two for us. We planned the menus together per his suggestions, he prepared the food and then just dropped it off for us to reheat (though he would have stayed to serve us if we had asked) - Arnaud was in contact with him throughout to make sure everything was just right. For two "fancy" full meals for 11 people, it was around 500 Euro and we thought that was reasonable. There is a grocery store and gas station nearby plus a boulangerie and a patisserie shop which was very convenient. With Arnaud at the helm as the caretaker and the ideas he has to make the castle even better, I think anyone would have a wonderful experience at the Chateau d'Epinac. It truly is one of the most unique properties that you could stay at and all 11 of us thought it was the "best trip ever" and that is saying a lot!!! Oh and the owner, Giovanni, and his assistant, Alessandra, were great to work with as well. I could not give this "magical" experience a higher rating - it was that amazing!”

October 2024A fun Castle with oh so many rooms
Chateau Epinac is a very interested place to stay. Rooms everywhere, tons of lovely antiques, a very nice and responsive caretaker Wolf. The kitchen is small and a bit limited if you like to cook a lot. But Wolf brought us everything we requested. There are still a few things being worked out. We were the second group to visit since it opened up, TVs were out due to a storm as was the outside hot tub, but we didn't miss them. Some strange fly issues in a few rooms, but it was a great location and a great experience in a truly classic Castle. Lots of space on the grounds, It rained during our stay but we were out touring Burgundy and the wineries so it didn't dampen our spirits. Would go back.”

October 2024Amazing fun and unique stay! Highly recommend!
We had the most amazing stay in the castle. It’s an experience like no other. You are staying in a piece of history surrounded by museum quality decor. Alessondro was so helpful in all of our planning leading up to our stay to make sure everything was perfect. There is a caretaker on the property that’s been there 35 years that is full of useful information. We hired a chef to come in one night and it was the best food and the most amazing experience. I can’t wait to come back one day.”
