Description

Midcentury Florida Beach House with Heated Pool

Vero Beach is an unspoiled gem on the Atlantic known amongst locals as “the Hamptons of Florida”. This quiet, understated, high-end beach town is like taking a step back in time—think Palm Beach, which is a little over an hour south—before it was discovered. Renowned for its low-key vibe, nearly empty beaches and understated elegance, Vero is what many have dubbed, ‘the perfect beach town’.

This Midcentury gem was owned by the same family for twenty-five years, meaning all the original architectural details remained intact. From the built-in hutch with handcarved solid wood detailing and velvet-lined drawers dividing the entry and the dining room to the ten foot brick wall facade surrounding a simple midcentury fireplace box, this house breathes classic Florida beach living. And perhaps the most delightful discovery, original terrazzo flooring, which the owners sought to meticulously restore to their original glory by Portuguese masters of the craft.

Nestled amongst giant trees on one of the coveted sea oak-lined streets on the island, our home is 4 blocks to the beach and three blocks to the Indian River Lagoon and vibrant arts offerings that set Vero apart: The Riverside Theater, Vero Beach Art Museum, the Vero Beach Beach Yacht Club and VB Rowing Club. With downtown Vero beachside an easy mile walk away—via either the beach itself or charming streets where the flora and fauna of the island delight and surprise— this home and its location equal the best of both worlds.

Set on a third an acre of land, our home is on one of the few non-through streets to A1A well west of the A1A, meaning the privacy and absence of traffic noise is unparalleled.

There are two entrances to the home. The main front door opens to the living room with, in true Midcentury fashion, a view through the home and directly outside to the pool and landscape. The second entrance, via the carport, is conveniently located right off the kitchen, and affords the option for access to the double-queen suite with en suite, ideal for traveling with friends where a little more independence between traveling partners may be desired.

Each of the three bedrooms is ensuite--every bathroom is contained within the bedrooms for total privacy. The master suite with king bed has a set of sliding doors facing east to the pool: south and west windows afford additional natural light during the day.

The second bedroom includes two extra long twin beds, a bureau, and a desk for those who may benefit from a space to work beyond the main living area. Windows face north to the tree-lined street, and also west. The bathroom in this en-suite includes a tub-shower combo and pedestal sink.

The third bedroom with two queen beds is the largest suite, complete with chest of drawers and a de facto sitting area comprised of a wingback corner chair and vintage down sofa. Sliding doors provide additional access to the pool via a shell path.

In the living room, an expanse of fourteen foot wide glass sliding doors fully open to marry indoor and outdoor living, where the heated pool and luxurious new travertine decking blur the distinction between indoors and out. On the lanai, a seating area for up to eight. At night, uplights show off the giant oak tree and palm and banana trees lining the back fence.

The dining room connects the living room and kitchen, and looks over the entry of the house to the north. With its vintage pass-through and red solid oak cabinetry, the kitchen is a throwback to simpler times, complete with wall oven and a utilitarian simple coil cooktop. A new slimline European style fridge is sits adjacent to a freestanding butcher block for an additional meal prep surface.

Beyond the kitchen, via a hinged door, sits the laundry/utility room with a new HE washer and dryer. The second entrance to the home via the carport is just beyond, along with the option for increased privacy for the guests who select the large suite with two queen beds.

Vero Beach is a feeling and a vibe that families return to experience time and again, year after year, generation after generation, for the classic Florida charm this beachside town exudes. We can only imagine that it will be the same for you.
