Description

We call it 'Caelum et Terra' (Heaven and Earth) as it is a place to relax and enjoy. Peace and spirituality are felt throughout. It is our second home, so indeed a TRUE Third Home where we pour our love and attention.

You will be welcomed with flowers and breathtaking views of the San Pedro, Tolimán and Atitlán volcanoes.

Enjoy an art collection representative of many of Guatemala's most respected artists.

The author of “Brave New World”, Aldous Huxley, called Lake Atitlan “the most beautiful lake in the world” and anyone who has been to the lake would most likely agree.

Legend has it that the chapeau-elephant-boa constrictor drawing on the first page of Antoine Saint-Exupery’s novella "The Little Prince" was taken in part from Lake Atitlán, where the author saw the Cerro de Oro: the “hill of gold” and this became the model for “the boa constrictor digesting an elephant”.

Skyline colors change throughout the day spanning from blue, green, grey, yellow, and red.

Services in the home are similar to a fine hotel. Pedro and our staff are there for you* to cook, clean and serve the best margaritas or negronis.

Recently renovated, the house, on two levels (Master en-suite bedroom on entry level, 3 en-suite bedrooms on lower level) is quite colorful and extremely cozy. Enjoy reading, listening to music, admiring the surroundings, roasting marshmallows at the fire pit or simply relaxing (cable and Direct TV are both available).

Choose among a number of outdoor activities on and around the lake: swimming, kayaking, paddle boarding, biking, hiking, birdwatching, paragliding, horseback riding, zip lining, yoga classes, boating, shopping for unique hand made local wares, taking affordable Spanish classes or exploring the surrounding towns, each with a distinctive character and size.

Our adult-children are constant visitors and enjoy the home as much as we do!

The property is not equipped with air conditioning as the fresh local climate does not require it. Regardless, tower fans are available for your use. SUV is recommended.

Special thanks to Alfredo Rodriguez-Allen and our Third Home guest, Mick Spilsbury for contributing to the photographs on this site.

Heaven on Earth!!

We are so grateful for the opportunity to stay at Caelum et Terra! The spectaculor views, the gorgeous home, the gracious hosts, and amazing staff made this such a wonderful trip. Alexandra was wonderful to communicate with and incredibly helpful and generous guiding us on our first trip to Guatemala. We cannot recommend this home enough to anyone who is lucky enough to get to visit Lake Atitlan. The furnishings and art were stunning and the home felt welcoming and comfortable. Pedro and staff were lovely to spend time with and definitely took great care of us, such a treat to have all of the help! We hope to return again soon with our family. Truly a one of a kind experience that should not be missed. Thank you Alexandra and family for sharing your home with us! ”

Heaven Above!

How do you start a review about "Caelum et Terra"? First off - when we decided to book our stay in Guatemala we said "this is going to be a trip of a lifetime". We were so right. From the moment you walk into the home and see the breathtaking view of the Lake Atitilan, and the surrounding volcanos, your breath is taken away! Then comes the amazing staff! they took care of every need we had. fabulous cooking, great bartending and very attentive house keeping! Pedro, Maria & Cehafia treated us like royalty! We rented a large van to accommodate 8 adults, driving in Guatemala is nothing short of scary! and don't trust google maps! We hope to return some day and will either hire a driver each way or take the helicopter! we started our trip with 2 extra days in Antigua, a must if you have not enjoyed this 450 year old colonial town. Back on the lake we decided to rent a boat a few different days for the entire day. This was very helpful in seeing a few different villages in 1 day. Each village is unique in its own way - go explore-- the people are amazing. Coffee on the porch each morning looking over the lake and Volcano's made you think of God's artistic hands in all of this. Many different activities and hiking available for all levels. The host Alexandra was the best Thirdhome Communicator I ever dealt with. Would love to make another Lifetime trip with more friends in the future. Thank you Pedro and Staff and a BIG thank you to the family for letting us stay at their amazing home. ”

Tangible Love

What an amazing host! Alexandra is one of the kindest people that I have encountered on the Thirdhome platform..... I would honestly love to meet her and her family in real life. Caelum et Terra is definitely a home away from home..... as you enter the property you feel the warmth and love of a tight knit family. The views over Lake Atitlan is amazing with spectacular ever changing sunsets and the huge of an early morning dawn to awaken you daily. We had such a lovely time in this beautiful warm home. A visit to San Juan is a must! I would recommend taking the helicopter option for a transfer to Lake Atitlan....... we had severe traffic delays on all our excursions en route to Caelum Et Terra. Antiqua is a lovely 2 day extension if you have time. We stayed in a beautiful boutique hotel called Meson Panza Verde. The staff at Caelum et Terra was attentive and always helpful..... Thank you Pedro for lovely Margaritas. We had a super chilled stay. This was indeed a special Thirdhome experience. Thank you Alexandra! Hope to see you in South Africa one day”
