August 2025Mateta stay - great place, the boat was somewhat lacking, for the price we paid
The biggest problems: * Generator not working when we arrived, caused a delay of one day. * Generator stopped working mid trip. its battery was dead and should have been replaced when we arrived. * Autopilot did not work, we needed to return to port for a fix. * Reef lines #2 and #3 were not in working condition. One reef line is stuck inside the boom. Bearing balls fall off mast regularly, probably from a reefing block. * Dinghy was failing to start and needed maintenance. * The engine alternator broke down mid trip, but that type of failure cannot be foreseen. they sent personnel to fix it. * Port engine alternator was not charging. Starboard engine battery switch was set to off. Engine batteries were bridged. (Corrected by tech visit.) * Window in starboard fwd room leaks in rain. * Mirror door in starboard aft bathroom falls off (locking tab barely fits in slot, so it comes off the rail when moved, needs adjustment). * Boat hook is stuck, probably broken, won't extend. * Jib furler rear block broken (I'll share picture). It is split in half so it doesn't roll, so furling rope gets stuck. * Traveler controlling ropes are too tight, causes overcurrent breaker to trip when traveler is moved. * Port fridge handle not working. * Port bow bathroom door angle limiter strap broken. * No black water tank indicator or alarm. * No true wind speed indicator. * Dinghy was not starting, carburetor needle was carbonized and full of gunk (we have to get it fixed during the trip) We keep in mind that the boat is a complex machine and many, many things can fail. Most issues were the result of the previous customer not informing and/or hiding issues, plus the operator not extensively checking the boat between customers. They seem to not try out the boats between rentals and rely on customer reports. We reported extensively and hopefully the boat was in better condition for the next customer. This probably happens with all operators that rent boats for whole weeks. ”
