Description

Villa Jasper

Perched high on the hillside of Les Terres Basses, this extraordinary island retreat is a true fusion of art, architecture, and natural beauty. Originally designed in the 1970s by renowned postmodern architect Philip Johnson as a private sanctuary for creativity, the property has been carefully renovated to preserve its minimalist ethos while offering today’s modern comforts. The result is a tranquil escape where space, light, and landscape are seamlessly intertwined.

Set at the border of French and Dutch St. Martin, this home enjoys breathtaking panoramic views over Simpson Bay Lagoon, framed by lush vegetation that softens its strong architectural lines. Whitewashed walls provide a striking contrast to the blue horizon and terracotta tones, while stone pathways and tree-shaded terraces lead to intimate garden spaces. At the heart of the property lies a cloistered stone-walled garden with a deep swimming pool, teak daybeds, and a lounge that feels both secluded and serene—an oasis designed for total relaxation.

The interiors feel luminous and almost cathedral-like, with a lofty ceiling and sliding glass walls that open to sweeping water views. By day, the lagoon sparkles in the distance, and by night, moonlight and island lights create a dreamlike glow. On the opposite side, the open-air dining terrace and enclosed garden extend the living space outward, capturing cool trade winds and inviting a seamless connection to nature.

Inside, a bespoke oak kitchen with quartz countertops becomes the social heart of the home, complemented by a spacious lounge area for gathering. Three bedrooms are thoughtfully positioned for privacy and inspiration: two front-facing suites with floor-to-ceiling views of the lagoon and mosaic-tiled bathrooms, and a third tucked into the garden, complete with a private pergola and open-air shower surrounded by tropical foliage. Every space feels intentional, from ornamental water features to shaded seating nooks, designed to uplift and inspire.

This rare hillside sanctuary invites guests to awaken their creativity, find peace in its harmonious design, and experience the island in a truly unforgettable way. Whether basking in the lagoon views, dining under the stars, or soaking in the pool’s dappled light, this home celebrates both the artistry of architecture and the beauty of St. Martin’s natural landscape.
