Description

Shelter 96 at Freycinet’s Edge

Set directly on the edge of Freycinet National Park, this understated retreat offers a rare kind of immersion, where the landscape becomes part of daily life. From the living room and deck, the view opens straight into native bushland, shifting with the light and weather. The house feels quietly held by its surroundings, offering just enough shelter to stay comfortable while remaining deeply connected to the place.

Inside, the home is simple and grounded, with warm timber interiors, generous windows, and an open-plan living space designed for slowing down. A wood heater anchors the room in cooler months, while three sofas, a large dining table, and a full kitchen invite long meals, conversation, and stillness. Everything here is intentional—nothing excessive, nothing distracting, just the essentials arranged to keep your attention where it belongs: outside.

Two comfortable double bedrooms and a bathroom sit along a central hallway, offering calm, private spaces to rest after days spent walking, swimming, or watching the light change. The home is prepared thoughtfully based on guest numbers, maintaining a sense of ease and quiet whether you’re staying as a couple or a small group. From April to November, firewood is provided, encouraging evenings that end beside the glow of the hearth.

Outdoor spaces flow naturally from the house, each offering a different way to experience the landscape. A front balcony extends from the living area, while a north-facing deck with barbecue and outdoor table catches the sun throughout the day. At the back, a west-facing deck with hammock, fire pit, and loungers becomes the place for sunset, unhurried, golden, and often unforgettable.

Beyond the decks, the national park begins. A short walk through the bush leads directly to Richardson’s Beach, where calm waters and pale sand invite early swims or evening walks. Continue along the shoreline and, in about twenty minutes, you’ll arrive at Freycinet Lodge in time for sunset drinks. With no television competing for attention and no rush to be anywhere else, this is a place to sit, watch, and let Freycinet do the rest.
