Description

Historic Mountain Cabin on Five Private Alpine Acres

The arrival unfolds across open meadow and river, with the mountains rising quietly beyond. Set on five private alpine acres at over ten thousand five hundred feet, this three bedroom, three bathroom cabin looks out toward the Middle Fork of the South Platte River, with Mount Democrat and Mount Bross defining the horizon. The first moments are shaped by thin mountain air, moving water, and a sense of space that feels increasingly rare.

The home itself carries visible history. Built from authentic pre Civil War log cabins originally sourced from Tennessee and Mississippi, the structure was carefully dismantled, restored, and reassembled in the Colorado high country. Hand hewn logs, antique doors, wide plank pine floors, and salvaged tin ceiling panels give the interior a sense of permanence, while radiant in floor heating and multiple fireplaces bring comfort through every season. The main living spaces feel grounded and inviting, designed for gathering without excess.

The kitchen balances modern capability with restraint. Dual dishwashers and contemporary appliances support shared meals and longer stays, while finishes remain true to the home’s historic character. Nearby, a quiet library nook and curated vinyl collection add texture to unhurried afternoons and evenings indoors.

Sleeping accommodations are arranged across two levels for flexibility and privacy. Three bedrooms feature queen beds, while a loft with five twin beds offers a natural retreat for younger guests or group stays. Each bathroom is full and thoughtfully finished, supporting comfort without distraction.

Outdoor living defines much of the experience. A private trail leads from the cabin to a secluded riverside deck, ideal for fly fishing, reflection, or early mornings by the water. A saltwater hot tub overlooks the meadow and peaks, where alpenglow settles at dusk and the night sky opens wide for stargazing. Wildlife frequently moves through the property, reinforcing the sense of immersion in the high country.

Despite its seclusion, the cabin remains connected with Starlink internet supporting work and streaming when needed. Alma sits just minutes away, with Breckenridge and Fairplay reached by a scenic drive over Hoosier Pass.
