April 2026A Lot Of Potential
This All-Inclusive resort just opened in September 2025 and while I think they have a lot of potential to become a fantastic getaway, they are currently going through some of the growing pains that come with being a new establishment. The good news is they have all the ingredients to be successful: a clean, beautiful building with each room having a great view, a friendly staff that seem to care and have a desire to be helpful, a great outdoor area with easy access to the pool or the ocean, and enough restaurants and bars to accommodate the busier seasons. If you are used to a more upscale, luxurious setting where the service is impeccable, the food and drinks are top notch, and the answer is always "yes" even when it is probably "no", unfortunately, at this time you will probably find yourself frequently disappointed. The resort was not busy while we were there; I'm guessing 50% capacity at most. Still, even with 3 restaurants available, it was difficult to get a reservation between 7:00-8:30 pm, but when you went to the restaurant, there was hardly anyone there. The wait staff were all very friendly, but most of our meals took at least an hour and it really wasn't clear why. More than once when we got our main course, it was lukewarm as though it had been sitting somewhere for a while. The food wasn't bad, but it really wasn't good either. It was just OK. Our experience at the bars was the same. Most of the bartenders we met were very friendly, but I can't say they were knowledgeable about their craft. If you asked them to make a drink with more than two ingredients or asked them for say a Tom Collins, they would look at you like you were from a foreign planet (not a foreign country!). And to be fair, they didn't really have the ingredients (or glassware) to create a truly craft cocktail, let alone a standard resort type drink. For example, I asked for a mojito and they put in one mint leaf and opened a package of sugar for the simple syrup. Their liquor selection was minimal at best with few top brand names, especially in the tequila (very disappointing for Mexico) and whiskey selections. I spoke with several guests who were members in the Legendary Vacation Club, of which this resort is the newest addition, and they said they were having the same experience as us and it definitely is not normal for the brand. This gives me great hope for this place, because there were definitely a lot of things we loved about it (Angel our concierge, Eugene at Agua Madre, Manuel at the pool, the lady at the pool who hand paints the straw hats, the entertainment staff, the balcony tub, most of the other guests, relaxing environment). My hope is that management will continue to build and train their staff so this place will live up to all the potential it has to be a fantastic vacation spot. If that happens, we'll definitely be back.”
