Podere Vigliano

Podere Vigliano is the quintessential Umbrian villa with a beautiful yard and picturesque views. Its central location is perfect for day trips whether you are going to Florence, Siena, Orvieto or into Tuscany. The host, Susan left very informative books on what to explore in the area, where to eat, shop, and taste delicious wine, which was quite helpful. The local restaurant Seven Cafe is just up the hill and a true gem, which we frequented. We had a few hiccups along the way, but they were quickly resolved by the caretaker. Podere Vigliano is a great place to share a family holiday with ample space inside and outside. We wish we would have gotten to enjoy the pool more, but it was too early in the season. Photos are accurate to what they look like in person. Be sure to have a small auto though as the driveway in is very narrow. The step access into bathrooms isn’t great for elders and a bit troublesome at night. The locals in the village are lovely, and we truly enjoyed our stay. ”

Restored farmhouse dripping with charm and character....

We stayed in this amazing restored farmhouse following a guided tour we had in Sicily. We were looking for a place to relax and slow down our pace. It is in a perfect location to visit so many close hill towns within an hour's drive. We loved the outdoor sitting area especially when we got the outdoor fire going and enjoyed the views while tasting some of the local wines and cheeses. Susan did a remarkable job in her recommendations of eating in Monteleone and we loved her daily itineraries. We enjoyed cooking a few of our dinners at the house and relaxing in the living room with a fire in the fireplace. The house is dripping with charm and character and was perfect for the 5 of us. Our only complaint was that we needed more time to explore the area but we may just have to return another time. ”

Podere Vigliano Stay

What a beautiful villa and property. We stayed a week here and enjoyed every minute. Great views in every direction. We went to Seven for 2 fantastic meals. The other gem is Bar Al Baciamano where you can hang with the locals for drinks and lighter dinners. We enjoyed walking Monteleone d’Orvieto. No crowds and very quant. Don’t miss the view at the end of town. This villa is a great base from which to explore the wineries and hilltop towns in Umbria and Tuscany. The host was wonderful and provided great advice on wineries and restaurants. ”

We loved our stay at Podere Vigliano. Susan answered all our questions and provided us with lots of local info. The house was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We spent so much time in the outdoor areas enjoying a glass of wine and taking in the views. The location made it easy for us to visit the hill towns in the area. We would definitely stay here again.”

Our first experience on Thirdhome and what a great start!

So today we returned to UK after an unforgettable experience at Podere Vigliano. Our party of seven visited as a treat for our stepmother, part of her 90th birthday celebration. This beautifully restored villa is set in the most amazing, interesting and well tended grounds, with breathtaking views across the valley and upwards to the local town of Monteleone D'Orvieto. It was everything we hoped it would be. Susan has remodelled the property with style and the quality of the fittings is wonderful. We went with the intention of visiting many of the other towns she had recommended in our pre-vacation correspondence, but when it came down to it, we were more that happy spending our days sampling the local wines and relaxing on any of the three seating areas around the property or by the pool. We took advice from Susan on things to do in the immediate area: We had dinner at the Seven Cafe on our first evening and again on our last evening (it was good enough to visit twice) and enjoyed a great meal which was very good value - I'd recommend it unreservedly. Also, on Susan's recommendation, we brought 'Chef Sabrina' in to prepare a barbecue for us one evening and a four course dinner on a second evening. Her food was amazing, her timings were perfect and she left the kitchen beautiful and clean before leaving. I've posted a couple of photos on her Instagram. On our last day we had a wine-tasting tour of the Pomario Vineyards and had a great time there: With healthy sized samples of their wines and a nice lunch, what's not to like? Our guide, Stephanie, was really knowledgeable and we all found it very interesting. We came away with a good selection of local wine. We want to come again. We all agreed that we would like to visit more of the area - we just worry that if we do come back we'll end up spending all our time at the villa again and that might necessitate a third visit! We made some great memories and our stepmother had a fabulous time. Thank you Susan and thank you ThirdHome.”

Umbria

Gorgeous location and beautifully restored house. Two ensuite bathrooms one with shower and the other with tub shower. Another shared bathroom with shower. The owner Susan provides extensive information regarding day trips, winery visits, restaurants, etc. We had a fabulous time. ”

Absolutely Amazing!!!

What a fabulous week we had and Podere Vigliano was at the center of it all. Susan was truly one of the very best host’s we’ve had in the 20+ properties we have enjoyed. The house was perfect for three couples and gave everyone space with wonderful rooms and areas to enjoy. After spending days touring the amazing hill towns of Umbria, we came back to a swim in the pool and/or wine and cocktails in front of the outdoor fireplace while watching the full moon and millions of stars. The area was perfect, the house was delightful and we could not have had a more marvelous time!”

Charming Farmhouse

Four couples spent a wonderful Fall week in Podere Vigliano, exploring surounding towns and villages by day and returning at night to cook and eat and drink the freshly collected regional foods and wines. The house comfortably held us all as well as the illusion that we had connected with eternal Umbria. None of us wanted to leave when the week was done.”

Lovely Italian Farmhouse in the Umbrian Countryside

Susan has done a wonderful job in restoring her 275 year old farmhouse. The location is perfect and the farmhouse far exceeded our expectations! We had two couples traveling with us and we were able to easily do day trips to Orvieto, Todi, Cortona, San Gimignano, Volterra. Susan has day trips and all of the history of the farmhouse readily available to peruse. Her recommendations are terrific! The grounds and pool are private and the views breathtaking. The medievil town of Monteleone d'Orvieto is a few minutes from the farmhouse and there are a couple of really good restaurants and a small market there. We stayed in a couple of nights and used the outside BBQ and it was really wonderful! Our stay was everything and more than we had hoped for and we truly did not want to leave.
