Description

Podere Vigliano, a 275 year old farmhouse, is beautifully restored in the old style situated on 10 acres in the Umbrian countryside bordering Tuscany.

Enter the cypress lined entrance to the enchanting private grounds. Walk among the olive groves, vineyard, fruit trees, oak forest, and manicured gardens, or relax by the private swimming pool or in an easy chair under the pergola sipping wine, and enjoying the peaceful views.

Choose between the four alfresco dining spots on the groomed property- each with views of the surrounding hills and the ever present golden silhouette of the hill town above. Relax and refresh by the private swimming pool. Start your day with an outdoor shower by the pool, cappuccinos, figs plucked from the tree, pecorino cheese and local honey-or hike up to the town cafe. Pick what is ripe from our fruit trees and vegetable garden. Cook with herbs growing outside in our kitchen garden.

Each bedroom offers a clean, effortless style of its own with window views for fresh air and light streaming in. Several comfy spots inside to gather or find some alone time. Peace abounds.

Ideally located midway between Florence and Rome, it is easy to visit the famous hill towns of Umbria and Tuscany and return home to the countryside to relax. The A-1 autostrada and the main train station in Chiusi are close by for easy access.

We are a 30 minute walk up to the walled town with several great restaurants, bars, wine bar, and grocery stores. Monteleone hosts several well known festivals. Cooking classes or a cook at the farmhouse can be arranged at a cost, as well as customized tours or itineraries.

Perfect!

We loved our stay at Podere Vigliano. Susan answered all our questions and provided us with lots of local info. The house was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We spent so much time in the outdoor areas enjoying a glass of wine and taking in the views. The location made it easy for us to visit the hill towns in the area. We would definitely stay here again.”

Our first experience on Thirdhome and what a great start!

So today we returned to UK after an unforgettable experience at Podere Vigliano. Our party of seven visited as a treat for our stepmother, part of her 90th birthday celebration. This beautifully restored villa is set in the most amazing, interesting and well tended grounds, with breathtaking views across the valley and upwards to the local town of Monteleone D'Orvieto. It was everything we hoped it would be. Susan has remodelled the property with style and the quality of the fittings is wonderful. We went with the intention of visiting many of the other towns she had recommended in our pre-vacation correspondence, but when it came down to it, we were more that happy spending our days sampling the local wines and relaxing on any of the three seating areas around the property or by the pool. We took advice from Susan on things to do in the immediate area: We had dinner at the Seven Cafe on our first evening and again on our last evening (it was good enough to visit twice) and enjoyed a great meal which was very good value - I'd recommend it unreservedly. Also, on Susan's recommendation, we brought 'Chef Sabrina' in to prepare a barbecue for us one evening and a four course dinner on a second evening. Her food was amazing, her timings were perfect and she left the kitchen beautiful and clean before leaving. I've posted a couple of photos on her Instagram. On our last day we had a wine-tasting tour of the Pomario Vineyards and had a great time there: With healthy sized samples of their wines and a nice lunch, what's not to like? Our guide, Stephanie, was really knowledgeable and we all found it very interesting. We came away with a good selection of local wine. We want to come again. We all agreed that we would like to visit more of the area - we just worry that if we do come back we'll end up spending all our time at the villa again and that might necessitate a third visit! We made some great memories and our stepmother had a fabulous time. Thank you Susan and thank you ThirdHome.”
