The two master bedroom suites feature a king bed, deep soaking tub, separate glass enclosed shower, large double vanity, private changing area, and a WC in a private enclosed alcove. The recently 'reimagined' Four Seasons at Peninsula Papagayo is a unique destination, and just completed a $35 million renovation. Spilling down a coastal hillside to an isthmus of golden sand is an ambiance of simple luxury in this pristine natural setting. With two unspoiled beaches, spa, championship golf, and the magic of the tropical dry forest, you will definitely feel like you have gotten away from it all. The resort is low density, and never feels crowded.
The main resort offers three pools (one is for adults only), whirlpool grotto, fitness center, three restaurants, kid’s club program (included), teen center, and tennis facility – four Har-Tru clay courts and a grass court. Sea kayaks, boogie boards, stand up paddleboards, windsurfing, snorkeling and other water equipment are readily available and included. Comfortable padded lounge chairs are available at the pools and beaches, with attendant service providing towels, complimentary SPF tanning lotions & aloe vera gel. Also, full-attendant bar/beverage and food service is available at the pools and beaches. A private beach club is accessible by shuttle just a few minutes away and offers an expansive beach, two pools, hot tub, health club, and more bars/restaurants.
Designed by Arnold Palmer, the Four Seasons 18-hole, par-72 signature championship course with clubhouse, restaurant, and snack bar is ranked amount the “Best 100 Courses Outside the United States” by Golf Digest. It spans over 220 pristine acres and sits on the tip of Peninsula Papagayo, nestled in the mountainside along the Pacific Ocean. There are spectacular water views from fourteen of the eighteen holes. The course plays 6,788 yards from the championship tees for the low-handicap golfer, and offers four additional sets of tees that allow golfers of all levels to indulge in their passion for the game.
The Spa at the Four Seasons Papagayo, offers a comprehensive selection of facials, body treatments and massages using indigenous ingredients, such as mineral-rich rainforest mud from the nearby Osa Peninsula.
Because the resort was built with ecologic sensitivities in mind, great care was taken to preserve the natural habitats of many indigenous plants and animals. It’s quite common to see and hear howler and white-faced monkeys outside of your window, and cross paths with giant iguanas on the golf course!
Just steps from your villa, you’ll find an exception variety of dining options, which brings creativity and inspiration to every meal. Distinctive Four Seasons settings celebrate the beauty of Peninsula Papagayo, many with open-air seating and views of the Pacific:
Pesce – Italian Kitchen and Wine Bar, the resort’s signature restaurant, features evening dining with locally sourced Italian specialties, fresh seafood and amazing sunsets.
Bahia Grill offers a casual and locally inspired fare, with al fresco options and indoor seating, open all day.
Anejo open air bar offers cozy seating, light meals and refreshing cocktails – with live music in the evening.
Caracol, at the golf clubhouse (a few minutes away, with regular complimentary transportation) serves delectable steakhouse dinners, seafood and mouth-watering cocktails, complete with endless skies perfect for stargazing.

Staying at the Four Seasons in Costa Rica in this residence is just amazing! We really loved the apartment, which is really well-sized and well-located inside the resort. As you can expect from Four Seasons, the service is impacable, but in Costa Rica people are even nicer than anywhere else in the world. Papagayo Peninsula really is a special place within the beautiful country of Costa Rica. Its terrain and views are really beautiful and the different beaches are all great to stay a few hours. On the Peninsula and outside the Peninsula there are enough activities to have a great week. We stayed here after travelling four weeks through Costa Rica and we could not have ended better. Both us and our kids really enjoyed our stay and want to thank the owner for letting us stay in this beautiful gem. ”
We greatly appreciated the hospitality of our host. The residence well exceeds the ThirdHome description and is part of select residences that were renovated simultaneously with the hotel's rooms; some other residences are older and some are slightly less refined from an interior design perspective. All appeared lovely, yet this residence clearly was atop them all. It was lovely being close to the Lobby, pools, and beaches. The coordinating team (chief among them being Ms. Jasmine Rivas) was wonderful and highly informative prior to arrival; groceries and additional services were only an e-mail away before and during our trip. The Covid test was administered in the unit by a trained medical professional; results were provided within hours. Recommendations on-site would be: (1) the spa has lovely cold and hot plunge pools to enjoy prior to treatments (they can also be used without spa services, but they do require advance notice); (2) the hotel offers extensive calendared activities from health, dance, sport and cooking classes, wine and rum tastings; all appealed to the rest of my group (I was too lazy to leave the comforts of the beaches - the tamarind margarita was a lovely discovery btw), as did the kayak, biking, and hiking tours (again, lazy me!). All returned rave reviews. As for food, no specific recommendation to share as every meal we had and item tried, was really great. If you crave something, do not hesitate to ask because they will certainly make it. In fact, at Bahia Restaurant, upon request they served us one of the best whole fried fish with coconut rice and beans that we have ever had. Give it a try. All the hotel, pool, beach, and water sports staff were great - I have a long list of names that will be shared with FSeasons separately. We opted to rent a large Land Cruiser for the week as we anticipated a couple trips off property. In hindsight, we should have coordinated transfers to and from the airport directly with the resort (they have a fleet of Expeditions that do nothing but that) and coordinating a day or two of a rental at needed times during our trip. It would have been much more comfortable. For those that like to cook and drink certain wines (I obviously do, haha), my last suggestion would be to utilize the provisioning services for the arrival essentials to get you through the night and morning - i.e. coffee and water - then head back into Liberia to experience the town. Head in after a very lite breakfast, search for a small restaurant named Mariajuana (it's Maria's play on what would normally jump to mind) and enjoy a lovely lunch in a highly regarded restaurant that serves really great food (I had shrimp and rice, my husband had the cordon blue, and we both ordered several additional sides of beans.) Afterward, just a few steps nearby is a grocery store (drawing a blank on the name at the moment, but it is inside the same complex so you park once for all). I found this offered numerous better options in American product, wines, rums, etc. than the typical go-to: Walmart. Lastly, for those that are not aware, all Four Seasons properties now have a chat system through the app that is available on your phone. This is usually before, during, and after ones trips as it allows you to communicate whenever, wherever with the respective property. I recommend it in general as it is very useful. Hope this was helpful. Rest assured, we will be back and you will too!”
Fantastic stay! Phil's place has the perfect location at the resort and the condo is impeccable. The amenities at the resort are the finest we have enjoyed and the kid's club was a huge hit with our kids (and with us). The highlight for me was getting to play on the resort's grass tennis court. We will definitely return and we highly recommend this property.”
Gorgeous Property and Great Service
Absolutely stunning residence with beach and canopy view, Amazing service. Activities, fishing trip left from the beach, catamaran, jetskis and 2 great beaches. We never felt the need to leave the resort. The concierge Jasmine and Harold were very proactive and super nice. Our children participated in one of the local outreach programs, backpack buddies, and brought backpacks with school supplies for local students. A family trip to cherish.”
We can't say enough wonderful thing about our stay! Everything was simply perfect. Thank you for an outstanding vacation!”
Hit or Miss
The disclaimer that I will give is that the resort was just about to close down for a massive renovation after our stay. Overall it is a beautiful property and location. We were a bit frustrated by inconsistencies in additional fees, cleaning services, etc and found it difficult to get a clear answer. My daughter loved the children's club, but it is targeted to a younger age group and my 8 year old son was not interested in it. Beaches are great. This is quite removed from many of the phenomenal features of Costa Rica, so I would encourage future guests to combine this location with other CR locations if possible.”
The apartment was great, well appointed and nicely decorated, close to the main amenities, pools kids club, restaurant's etc. The staff at the kids club were particularly great with our kids. Overall level of service at the four Seasons was excellent. We had a wonderful week, thank you. ”
One of our best vacations ever!
This property will not disappoint!!!! We loved every minute at the Four Seasons Costa Rica. We have stayed at other Four Seasons Resorts (e.g., Punta Mita, Dallas, etc), but this was our favorite. The service and food were excellent! The 3-bedroom residence was spacious and beautifully decorated. Recommended excursions by the Four Seasons staff were top notch! Thank you, thank you for offering this week on 3rd Home. Awesome experience all around!!!!”
Recent stay at four season Papagayo
Overall had a great time visiting Costa Rica at the four seasons. The golf course is a challenging and well cared for course in an amazing setting along the Pacific Coast line of the peninsula. The tennis facility and tennis program and pro are top notch and loved the well cared for clay courts. The food is good but not great at the resort and alittle pricey for what you get. Concierge was good with on property needs but not as helpful for off property planning particularly with off property dinner plans. Hiking paths on property were phenomenal with white faced and howler monkeys always in view each day. I recommend highly. Art/ Monica Taylor ”
