Not terrible, not great

We stayed at this property in Cabo from September 13–20, and while there were certainly some beautiful aspects — particularly the stunning ocean view from the balcony — there were also a number of challenges that made the stay far from relaxing. To start, the property is perched at the top of a very steep dirt hill. Perhaps due to recent rain or storm damage, the road conditions were rough, with deep divots that made it difficult for cars and Ubers to reach the top. Prior to the trip, I was told a car wasn’t necessary and that Uber would be the best transportation option, but that turned out to be inconvenient and costly. Every ride felt like a gamble that the car might not make it up or down the hill safely. The location also wasn’t as walkable as expected. The “short walk” to the beach was actually a long, steep trek in 100-degree humidity with no easy way to carry beach gear. We ended up spending little time at the beach itself — mostly admiring it from our balcony. When we arrived, several workers were inside the unit. We quickly learned that a large portion of the ceiling in one of the bedrooms had collapsed, leaving a sizable hole above the bed. The staff was kind and acted quickly to move us to another three-bedroom unit two floors below (essentially the basement level). While I appreciated the effort, the replacement unit didn’t match the configuration or ambiance of the original one. Unfortunately, the elevator was also broken when we arrived. We were told it would be fixed within a day, but it never worked throughout our entire stay. This made reaching the rooftop pool — five or six flights up — a sweaty climb, and the stairwells were often completely dark. The pool itself was pleasant but lacked any shade or umbrellas, which made it difficult to enjoy during the intense midday heat. Since it was Mexican Independence Day, the area was quiet at first, but midway through the week loud banging began in the unit above us — ironically, the same one we had originally been assigned. Construction noise continued throughout the day, making siestas or quiet time impossible. Combined with the heat and limited walkability, it was difficult to relax. The one consistent bright spot was the housekeeper, who was warm, professional, and came exactly when requested. Unfortunately, this birthday trip ended up being the opposite of restful. I eventually booked a night at a hotel in San José del Cabo just to have one day of comfort, air conditioning, and convenience before heading home. Maybe ThirdHome relies heavily on member-provided photos and descriptions, so they may not have known the true condition and challenges of this property. Still, this experience has made me hesitant to book another full-week stay through ThirdHome. When you only get a limited amount of time off each year, you want to feel confident that your vacation will be enjoyable — not stressful.”

The actual accommodations are beautiful. It’s a condo Bldg and a bit off the grid so I recommend having your own car. Super comfortable with great views. ”
