Description

Walnut Tree Cottage

Walnut Tree Cottage is located in the idyllic village of Llanigon, just 1.5 miles from the famous literary town of Hay-on-Wye, which straddles the English/Welsh border. Known as the Kingdom of Books, bookshops, antique shops, and galleries line the picturesque streets and visitors are warmly welcomed by the friendly local community. The town has several excellent restaurants and a weekly market selling fresh produce and local crafts. Music performances, theatre and poetry readings are regularly held throughout the year. Plenty of good walks and kayaking through the River Wye should be noticed!

Llanigon is located at the doorstep of the famous Welsh Black Mountains and is only half an hour from Brecon Beacons National Park, which is well-loved for its walks in a place of outstanding natural beauty. Other activities include mountain biking, stargazing, horse riding, fishing, caving, white water rafting, and gliding. There are many multi-activity centres to keep the little ones busy.

Tucked away in a charming village surrounded by woodland, Walnut Tree Cottage is a traditional Welsh stone cottage dating from 1881 with a modern extension housing a large primary suite and a bright, airy kitchen.

French doors lead to a fairytale garden bursting with flowers, herbs and fruit in the summer. Guests can listen to the babbling brook (which leads to an 8ft waterfall), explore the peaceful woodland and make a pizza in the outdoor oven all year round. Expect to see kingfishers, trout and even otters!

The cosy living room - featuring a wood burner - flows into the reception room and kitchen, allowing guests to spend time together or apart. The charming downstairs bedroom sleeps three single beds under the eaves, with space for a baby in a travel cot provided upon request. A utility room contains a washer/dryer, iron and ironing board, a family-sized fridge and toys for the little ones. Upstairs, all three bedrooms feature king-size beds and the extensive master bedroom benefits from an en-suite bathroom.

The cottage has been lovingly decorated to a high specification in a calming palette. The property, whilst not large, is big in style, with furniture and fittings from all over the world.

The cottage is pretty and nicly furnished - modern but still beffiting a cottage style. The garden is in an lovely spot, but would benefit from some maintenance, as it is quite overgrown with weeds on the driveway. If you enjoy waliing/running on peaceful paths/trails, this is ideal - we hardly saw anyone when we were out and the scenery is lovely. A couple of things were missing - coffee, bin bags, but these were easy to pick up in town. The nearby garden centre has a good food hall useful for meals in and picnics. We enjoyed a relaxing stay at the cottage and welcomed being able to bring our dog (a gate between the drive and the back garden would be a nice addition for visters with pets and small children). Thank you”

Wonderful Walnut Cottage

Lovely historic cottage with all mod cons in bucolic setting next to a beautiful wood and stream. Very nice owners. Thank you!”

Wlanut Tree cottage

There were 8 of us staying at the Walnut tree cottage and we all had a good time. The house provided everything we could have wanted and although the weather did not cooperate it was a pleasant week of walks and exploration. I would definitely recommend it to any group. The only drawback would be if you were physically handicapped because there is one set of stairs that is very steep which could be a problem for some people.”
