Description

Starting in the second half of the 19th century the western shore of the lago maggiore, also stopover for the famous "orient express"train, became a preferred destination for wealthy travellers, who eventually built their holiday homes along the coastline.

The natural beauty of the landscape, the ideal combination of mountains and lake, made Cannero Riviera and its Park Hotel the frequent destination for Lord Mountbatten and many more English tourists as well as writers.Cannero received its name "riviera" due to the mild climate where palmtrees and even orange trees can grow in the open.

Today the area is an international tourist destination with a peak season in July and August.

In 2014 we had the opportunity to aquire a 46000 m2 terrain in the vicinity of the village of Cannero, actually between Cannero and Trarego-Viggiona, 200 meters above the lake with a splendid view across the lake.

The location of the house is in a nature preservation zone, therefore a 400 yard unpaved forest road without streetlights leads to the entrance gate. *Please note that this property is best accessed in a car that has 4-wheel drive or front wheel drive.*

We completely rebuilt and extended a preexisting old stonehouse dating from the 1850's equipped with all modern amenities including three bedrooms, two bathrooms, one toilet and a modern kitchen with freezer, dishwasher, stove, plate warmer and a complete set of brand new kitchen appliances as well as solar panels on the roof. The house comprises an area of about 150 m2.

An open fireplace, a portico on the first floor, a balcony for the master bedroom and a spacious terrace directed to the south gives you plenty of opportunity to relax in total privacy.

The accessible part of the garden ,ca 10000 m2, is just being taken care of by a gardener and by spring we will have azaleas and camelias as well as palms and magnolias growing.

Air conditioning is not available at the house although it never gets too hot in these regions of Northern Italy. A small 2KW mobile cooling device is available if need be.

The fully equipped brand new kitchen has no ice machine but fridge and freezer.

At the moment we have a laundry service done by our cleaning lady but no washing machine.

Please note this property is not suitable for handicapped or disabled people or small children due to the terrain being fairly steep, some of the paths on the ground (more than 45000 m2) are not secured.

The house is partly furnished with antiques from the 1830ies and pieces of art that have to be treated carefully.

Amazing views from a beautiful home!

Klaus and Bettina have created a beautiful home on the top of the hill by Lake Maggiore. The views are just fantastic and the inside feels like an elegant, comfortable home (not a typical rental property). We enjoyed hiking, visiting the different villages, going to the islands, fun restaurants and just exploring the area. Klaus and Bettina were very helpful with recommendations and instructions and sent great videos with arrival instructions to the house. The drive to the house is part of the adventure! (If you have rain in the forecast, be sure to pick up some dry kindling from the market to start the fire for hot water as it is solar powered.) ”

The best place to be on Lago Maggiore

Bettina and klaus made us feel very welcome in their recently and beautifully refurbished home. Quite amazing lake views and wonderfully serene, peaceful situation, yet very close to the best towns on the lake namely cannero Riveria and Cannobio. We had a super relaxing time and fully recharged our batteries in this very comfortable and fully equipped home.”
