Description

Luxury Historic Eagle River Chain Lake Estate

Known as "Yellow Birch Lake Inn," this iconic 1940s lake-house estate has been modernized into a private family inn. The home has maintained its original charm wonderfully while carefully preserving the beadboard ceilings in the bedrooms and the original Douglas Fir wood paneling and stone fireplace in the living room.

Nestled on the banks of Yellow Birch Lake with 400-feet of lake frontage, the Inn is the perfect place to experience the world's largest chain of 28 connected lakes. Comfortably designed to accommodate five couples (or singles), or three families: three bedrooms for couples and two bedrooms for the kids to share, the home is spacious and well equipped for big groups.

The home underwent a complete upgrade in 2020. The furniture, beds, linens, bath and beach towels, cookware, dinnerware, and the outdoor grill are brand new.

The gourmet kitchen is a dream with top-notch GE appliances, including two ovens (one is convection), a 6-burner gas stove, a large refrigerator, and two dishwashers. The kitchen is well equipped with a microwave, pots, pans, bakeware, serve ware, and place settings for 20. You can break bread with your loved ones at the bright dining room table with seating for 14 that offers stunning views of the lake.

When you are ready to end the day with peace, cuddle up in front of the fireplace in the formal living room with a book or recount the day's events. The second den offers a 75" Smart TV to stream your favorite show or movie. The Inn has high-speed (1-gig) internet, allowing everyone to use their smart devices freely when the time calls for it.

Graciously accommodating 17, every bedroom offers a retreat-like space to retire to at the night's end. Each of the five bedrooms has lake views. The gorgeous sunrise will wake you in the morning, exciting you for the day ahead. Four bedrooms have full en suite bathrooms, while the last has a full bathroom just across the hall. There is also a powder room for added convenience. Due to the home being connected to the city's sewer and water system, guests can take long hot showers (with excellent water pressure) all at the same time. The Inn has a boiler, dual furnace, and air-conditioning zones.

The enormous front lawn is a great place to start outdoor fun. Play badminton, croquet, corn hole, or whiffle ball, and those who would rather watch can relax in the lakeside gazebo or on one of the many Adirondack chairs near the shoreline. Bring your boat(s) or rent a watercraft from the nearby marine and dock them in the historic two-stall overwater boathouse. Pack the boat with an ice chest and homemade sandwiches and set out for the day. Everyone is sure to enjoy time spent on the calm waters. Gather around the fire pit, have a smores night, or spread a blanket on the lawn and stargaze with your loved ones.

The fun to be had in Eagle River is endless. Walk to the Eagle River Golf course (across the road) for a leisurely 18 holes. Rent kayaks, paddleboards, SeaDoos. Boat to one of the many waterfront restaurants on the chain for lunch or dinner. Bring your binoculars and search for your new favorite bird. Bring bicycles and set out to explore the Wild Eagle Trail. The chain of lakes is legendary for sports fishing, including competitions — northern pike, bass, trout, and the 1000-casts-to-catch-a-muskie, so don't forget to bring your fishing gear.

Eagle River provides just as much entertainment in the winter as in the summer. It is the Snowmobile Capital of the World, so you should head out on one of the many trails and experience snowmobiling for yourself. Watch a hockey game at the iconic Sports Arena. Snowshoe or cross-country ski on nearby trails. You can also Ice fish on many nearby lakes.

Notes from the owner:
There are two SUP's and two kayaks for guests to use free of charge. In addition there is now a "walk in" swim access section on the shoreline.

Comfortable, Casual Charm

This was our first Third Home experience and we were delighted: The time spent at this property was akin to settling back into a favorite easy chair: We were totally comfortable right off the bat. The house is large enough, and laid out in a way to easily accommodate several families or couples, yet it offers a casual, comfortable elegance that allowed our small group of four to feel cozy in the space. We loved sitting on the dock for an evening cocktail followed by dinner in the light-filled dining room/gourmet kitchen and then (most nights) a big fire in the fieldstone fireplace or the outdoor fire pit. Views from all the windows are just lovely! We visited during early October - peak color time in Wisconsin, and hiking in the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest was spectacular. We would love to stay at this property again!”

Lake Living

Very nice home and property. Very easy access to town and restaurants. Golf right across the street. The boathouse is something to see (the ultimate mancave). ”
