Description

Moturua is a privately owned island located in the Bay of Islands. This stunning beach side house, designed by New Zealand architect, Pete Bossley, has been carefully sited on idyllic Moturua Island. The main home features four beautifully appointed bedrooms, all enjoying a private terrace and ocean views. The focal point of the main house is the split level living area. The kitchen and living room flow to surrounding outdoor patios adjoining a vast lawn. Each room has maximum exposure to outside, either the beach and sea to the east, and through the relaxed corridor to the land and afternoon sun to the west.

In addition two separate houses each containing a double room and bunk room, bring the island guest capacity to a comfortable 16. Additional bedrooms are housed in the helicopter hangar and are suitable for support staff.

A private chef can be arranged and on site staff will take care of laundry, cleaning etc.

Alternative activities include walking, golf at Kauri Cliffs Lodge, island cruising, deep sea fishing. Access to the island is restricted to boat or helicopter. You can choose to keep the helicopter and pilot on site with you throughout your stay. The onsite helipad and private jetty make for convenient arrival and departure.

A fabulous stay!

Moturua Island is, as the photos suggest, a very beautiful home in a very special part of the world. We had a delightful week on the island made even more special by the thoughtfulness of the caretakers of the property - Kate and Duncan (and their 2 boys Frank and Ray!). The property is on a private island which is historically and environmentally significant - with nothing on it but two private properties and forests full of native birds - and several pristine secluded beaches. We didn’t do anything much very active other than circumnavigate the island (on foot) which takes a few hours as the path follows a hilly route. However, kayaks and fishing equipment were on offer and the gym in the helicopter hanger (really!) was very well equipped. And… the putting green complete with a sand bunker and various chipping positions (sorry not a golfer!) looked like golf heaven. Also, a golf simulator building/structure was there to use. The logistics of island life do require a bit of planning - Duncan happily transported us to and from the mainland base where we were able to leave cars (securely) for the week. We did a big food shop in Whangarei on the way up from Auckland and had a day on the mainland getting extra supplies and visiting Russell and a lovely lunch in a winery restaurant (Sage). Of course there is also the option of hiring a private chef to cook for you in the professional kitchen in a seperate nearby building on the island. We will have very fond memories of our stay on the Island and if ever the opportunity came up we’d be back in a flash!”
