Description

Take in the atmosphere of King Louis XIII with a chateau experience! Elegant and breathtaking, this castle guarantees a particularly luxurious holiday in the Dordogne.

You reach Château de Monferrier via a tree-lined driveway and enter the courtyard through the imposing wrought-iron gates. Your eye will immediately be drawn to the court pond, enclosed by a symmetrical, classical hedge garden. The Château lies beyond, painted golden yellow, fairytale-like, almost regal - bring your own fairytale to life at this property in the Dordogne.

Built in 1611, Château de Monferrier has been stylishly renovated to meet the highest standards. As the Château has never been abandoned and the current owners are only the fifth since its construction, the best of each period has been preserved. From the elegant window handles in the shape of winged angels to the carved limestone balustrade staircase, from the imposing fireplaces to the high French windows, and from the beamed ceilings to the classical proportions - it is a property that enjoys perfect lighting and a serene peace.

Located on a low hill with beautiful views in all directions, the Château features classical architecture with meticulous symmetry and alignment. Behind the front doors, a three-storey high chandelier sheds the most beautiful light on the elegant staircase with its limestone balustrade. In addition to the historic character and beauty of the architecture, guests will be amazed by the exceptionally high-quality finish and the standard of furniture and amenities found throughout the property.

The dining room is equipped with a beautiful dining table for 16 people and glitters with light from the magnificent chandelier above. French doors offer a rural view of the beautiful French countryside. The kitchen is also impressive, equipped with only the very best professional equipment so that you can prepare the finest dishes or add the luxury of bringing a chef. The large games room is equipped with a huge flat-screen TV plus Netflix, hundreds of DVDs, board games and table football - perfect for a pleasant evening with the whole family. The bedrooms are all furnished with high-quality materials such as hardwood, marble, leather, silk and wool.

The luxury of the Château extends into the beautiful garden, which is just wonderful to stroll through. Here you will find the large, inviting swimming pool surrounded by beautiful lawns, trees and plants. The sun terrace with its comfortable lounge furniture is a perfect place to relax, read a book, or to sip an aperitif and enjoy the beautiful views.

The Château sits on the border of the Périgord Blanc and the Périgord Noir. This part of the Dordogne is known as the gastronomic centre of France with many excellent restaurants, some with Michelin stars. The farmers' markets (especially the Périgueux farmers market is famous; it has the best and freshest products which can be bought on market days which are Wednesday and Saturday mornings), numerous grand chateaux and historic sites are also nearby, including the Lascaux caves and the limestone houses in Les Eyzies. The charming medieval towns of Périgueux and Sarlat are less than half an hour away. Brive is less than one hour away and Bordeaux International Airport is within 1 hour and 30 minutes by car.

Two weeks in a fabulous chateau in perfect dordogne location

We “loved the dream” for 2 wonderful weeks. The chateau has everything we needed. First week was cold but they had some electric heaters. Fireplaces were not to be used. The walks in areas by chateau were magical. The history and sites within 40 minutes are endless!!! We and our friends loved our time at chateau de monferrier!!!!”

A Special Visit We Will Always Remember

I cannot even begin to describe how truly magical this beautiful home and part of France is. We totally enjoyed our visit. At the Chateau owners' recommendation, we had a chef prepare a full French dinner one evening and enjoyed a special night staying in. Compliments to all who lovingly renovated this breathtaking property. It is truly stunning.”
