Description

Woodland Townsend Escape near Great Smoky Mountains National Park

“Townsend is a more laid-back alternative to the busier towns of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, but equally beautiful.” — Travel + Leisure

Highlights
• Three-bedroom mountain retreat perched on a mountain ridge bordering Smoky Mountain National Park and surrounded by mature woodland with seasonal mountain views

• Spacious covered wrap-around porch, screened sitting area, stone fireplace, and private sauna

• Gated community setting with golf access and convenient access to the outdoor experiences of Townsend and Great Smoky Mountains National Park

Tucked into the wooded mountainside of Townsend, this three-bedroom retreat offers a comfortable escape on what is often called the “Peaceful Side of the Smokies.” Townsend sits in Tuckaleechee Cove and serves as one of the gateways to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, making the home a natural base for days spent hiking, sightseeing, or exploring Cades Cove. Back at the property, mature trees and glimpses toward the surrounding mountains create a quiet backdrop for slowing down between adventures.

Inside, the approximately 2,015-square-foot home feels bright and welcoming, with a vaulted ceiling and high triangular windows bringing additional light into the main living area. Comfortable seating gathers around a substantial stone fireplace, while plantation shutters and warm, traditional furnishings give the room an easy residential character. The adjacent dining space provides a relaxed place for shared meals, and the full kitchen offers generous cabinetry, stainless-steel appliances, an island, and plenty of workspace.

Three bedrooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, accommodate up to six guests across two king beds and one queen bed. The bedrooms are individually furnished with a warm, classic mountain-home aesthetic, while two full bathrooms and two half bathrooms provide added convenience for groups. An office creates a dedicated workspace when needed, and practical amenities including air conditioning, Wi-Fi, a washer and dryer, coffee maker, and crib make the residence well suited to longer stays as well.

Outdoor spaces make the most of the wooded setting. A long covered wrap-around porch looks through the trees toward the surrounding landscape, offering an inviting place for morning coffee or an unhurried afternoon. A screened sitting area provides another quiet spot to enjoy the forest surroundings, while the private sauna offers a welcome way to unwind after hiking, golfing, or exploring the national park.

Beyond the home, Townsend is particularly well positioned for experiencing the quieter side of the Smokies. Guests can explore Tuckaleechee Caverns, learn about regional history at the Great Smoky Mountains Heritage Center, tube along the Little River, or venture into Great Smoky Mountains National Park toward Cades Cove. Scenic drives along the Foothills Parkway reveal broad mountain panoramas, while hiking, cycling, fishing, horseback riding, and golf offer plenty of ways to experience the landscape at a more leisurely pace.
