HISTORIC DOWNTOWN AIKEN COTTAGE
Discover the lovely and inviting town of Aiken with its southern charm -- it's certainly a hidden gem! Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast or a history buff, Aiken offers much to do and enough to keep your group actively engaged. Its one-of-a-kind celebratory festivals ranging from world-class prestigious equestrian events to street festivals, provides the incredible ambiance along with its abundance of restaurants, cafes and foodie-hot-spots. Famous for its thoroughbred horse races, polos and steeplechases, Aiken was originally built to be the Winter Colony for the rich and famous; the city has continued to remain a steady visiting ground for 21st century equestrians. Historically built as a railroad town in 1835, it remains a uniquely designed city with a web of one-way streets, lovely squares and circles with picturesque fountains; its trees blooming with its equally famous camellias - in fact hundreds of rare ones! The town boasts the oldest farmer's market in the state - the Aiken County Farmers Market, held three times a week. If this wasn't enough attraction for you, be sure to visit Aiken in the summer season to enjoy the musical experience of "Joye" - the Juilliard in Aiken, bringing world-class musicians, actors, dances and teachers from the Juilliard School of New York.
Step inside this historic cottage referred to as "Twin Cedars" located in the historic downtown district of Aiken, to find an equally charming ambiance to that of its hometown. From the classic Southern front porch with wicker-rattan furniture, to its lovely rustic-chic decor and colorfully painted interior, multiple windows and southern pine flooring, the cottage welcomes you to stay a while. The main living room, with its high ceilings, provides cozy seating upon a cushy leather couch and upholstered chairs all arranged around a lovely colonial-style fireplace. The dining room features antique and vintage furnishings with a round wooden table that seats 4-6 people and a lovely magnolia art piece - an ode to the town of Aiken. Cook up a fabulous meal or many in the fully equipped kitchen with hints of white and natural wood cabinets, a chopping block island with two stools and a small china cabinet-small bar offset area to prepare mint juleps and refreshments in. Additionally, you'll find three bedrooms with full baths, each uniquely painted a different charming hue. Enjoy the owner's small collection of books, along with games and music in the library nook. The Master bedroom has a washer and dryer in addition to a walk-in closet. There is an additional family-sleeping Sun-porch room with a twin daybed trundle sofa with a TV and a half-bath.
Exit outside from the Sun-porch room to the fenced-in backyard with its nice deck and a BBQ grill with patio furniture for relaxing and mingling; listen to the birds and smell the hypnotic scent of Wisteria when in bloom. There is ample parking offered for guests at the cottage. From the cottage, you can easily walk to Hitchcock Woods, the largest privately owned urban forest in the nation with 2,100-acres of forestland and 70-miles of trails and much to explore!
