Close to Volcano National Park
If you want to be on the wilder side of the island, live like a native and be close to the volcanoes, orchid farm, Hilo area waterfalls, this is the place for you.. Although it is truly bare bones, it is a good home-base for sight seeing the Southern part of the island. Wonderful views up and down the coast from the pool area. No beach or area to swim from this house, but there is a walk to see some viewing tidal pools down the street. Other things to do...visit the Zoo near Hilo, tour the Moana Loa macadamia nut farm... Driving back across the island to the more touristy areas would be exhausting after seeing some of the beautiful sights near Keaau. Also, Hilo airport is simple to get to and in/out of for overnight trips to other islands. ”
